What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 40 g/m2 Coreloft Stretch warmth in the body
  • 205 g and packs into its own hand pocket
  • Octa fleece panels and mesh sleeves vent heat
  • DWR only, no membrane: needs a shell in rain
  • Uninsulated sleeves get cold once you stop
  • No hood, and only S, M and L available

The Arc'teryx Atom SL Jacket Women's is a 205 g synthetic insulated mid layer without a hood, built for aerobic mountain days in cool, mild weather. Coreloft Stretch insulation of 40 g/m2 sits in the body only, the sleeves are uninsulated and mesh lined, and the side panels run in 122 g/m2 Octa polyester fleece. It holds core warmth while you keep moving and sheds heat instead of trapping it.

Who is the Atom SL Jacket Women's for?

For a woman moving fast in the mountains - alpine climbing, alpine hiking, fast walking in cold damp air - who wants warmth that breathes and packs into its own hand pocket. It also serves as a mid layer under a waterproof shell. It is not an outer layer for sustained rain or wet snow, not a resort ski jacket (no powder skirt, no pass pocket, no waterproof shell fabric), and not the piece to pick if you need a hood.

How warm is the Arc'teryx Atom SL Jacket?

Warmth comes from 40 g/m2 Coreloft Stretch in the body, behind a Fortius Air 20 face fabric of 58 g/m2 that is deliberately air permeable. That keeps your core comfortable at a working pace in cool conditions and vents hard through the mesh-lined sleeves and the Octa fleece side panels. Standing still in deep cold is outside its range, and the open weave gives limited protection in strong wind.

Which size should you choose?

The Atom SL Jacket Women's has a Fitted cut: close through chest, waist and hip, with articulated patterning and an adjustable hem draw cord. Take your usual size; buyers consistently report their normal size fitting as expected. Centre back length is 65 cm in size S. Planning to wear a thick midlayer underneath? Size up, because the cut is built to stay low in bulk. Offered here in S, M and L; compare the size chart on this page with your own measurements.

How is the Arc'teryx Atom SL Jacket Women's constructed?

Three fabrics do three different jobs. The body is Fortius Air 20, a plain weave of 88% nylon and 12% elastane at 58 g/m2, chosen to let air pass through rather than to block it. Behind it sits Coreloft Stretch synthetic insulation at 40 g/m2, 100% polyester with recycled content, backed by a recycled 20d nylon weft-stretch lining of 58 g/m2. The sleeves skip insulation entirely and run a mesh lining, and the side panels are Octa polyester fleece at 122 g/m2 with a 40D Delta face. Total weight is 205 g, and the jacket stuffs into one of its hand pockets, which has a two-sided zipper and a small internal loop so the packed bundle can be clipped to a pack.

What does the Atom SL Jacket do on an alpine day, and where does it stop?

Arc'teryx builds the Atom SL Jacket Women's for alpine and hiking use, and that is where it makes sense: worn on its own on a cold, damp approach or climb, where the air-permeable face fabric and the fleece side panels keep you from overheating on the uphill. When the weather turns it goes under a waterproof hardshell as a thin, low-bulk warm layer. It stops at the point where protection matters more than breathability. There is no membrane and no water column rating - weather resistance is an FC0 DWR finish on a fabric that breathes by design, so sustained rain or wet snow calls for a shell over the top. The same applies to wind: this version trades a tight weave for air permeability and stretch. For lift-served skiing it lacks the hardware a ski outer layer needs, and the SL designation means superlight materials, so rock scrambling, hauling and constant pack or harness rub will wear it faster than a heavier jacket.

What is the Atom SL Jacket made of and how do you care for it?

Body and lining are nylon-elastane plain weaves, which is what gives the jacket its stretch and its light hand; the insulation and the side panels are polyester. The fabric carries a Polygiene anti-odour biocidal treatment, worth knowing if you prefer untreated textiles. Wash on a gentle machine cycle at low temperature, with dark colours separately, and use a double rinse so no detergent stays in the insulation. Skip fabric softener, bleach, dry cleaning and the iron. Tumble dry gentle and low to loft the Coreloft Stretch back up. Do not wring the jacket out.

How sustainable is the Atom SL Jacket Women's?

The shell and lining are bluepass materials, and the jacket contains materials produced through processes that meet bluesign criteria. The contrast fabric, the insulation and the 20d nylon lining all carry recycled content. The FC0 DWR finish is free from intentionally added PFAS. Sewing is done in a Fair Trade Certified facility, Youngone (CEPZ) Ltd in Bangladesh, with fabric and dyeing in Taiwan and China. Arc'teryx notes that the garment may release plastic microfibres when washed.
