What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • Three-layer GORE-TEX PRO with ePE membrane
  • Helmet-compatible DropHood, RECCO in hood brim
  • Tougher fabric on yoke and upper arms
  • No insulation: warmth comes from your layers
  • No powder skirt or ski-pass pocket
  • One-way front zip, no harness access

The Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket is an uninsulated three-layer GORE-TEX PRO hardshell for men, built for all-round mountain use: alpine climbing, mountaineering and winter hiking in wet, snowy and windy conditions. It uses a GORE-TEX PRO laminate with an ePE membrane and a DWR finish, both free from intentionally added PFAS. The hybrid shell places a more abrasion-resistant fabric on the yoke and upper arms, where pack straps work hardest, and a lighter fabric across the body.

Who is the Beta AR Jacket for?

This is the jacket for a mountain user who wants one durable shell to cover climbing, winter hiking and touring, and who builds warmth with layers underneath instead of buying an insulated ski jacket. It is not the right choice if you want a resort or freeride jacket: the Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket has no powder skirt, no ski-pass pocket and a shorter cut than dedicated ski shells. It is also not a standalone warm layer, because there is no insulation in it.

How weatherproof is the Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket?

Protection comes from a three-layer GORE-TEX PRO construction with an ePE membrane, which the brand states is waterproof, windproof and breathable. Underarm pit zips let you dump heat on a climb or a skin track without opening the front. The helmet-compatible DropHood gives full coverage and adjusts with a precision system that keeps your peripheral vision clear, and a RECCO reflector is built into the hood brim.

Which size should you choose?

The Beta AR Jacket has a regular fit, cut comfortably through chest, waist, hip and thigh so it layers over a midlayer and sits over a harness-free climbing setup. Order against the Arc'teryx men's tops measurements in the size chart on this page. If you plan to wear a thick insulated jacket underneath, consider the next size up; the glove-friendly Velcro cuffs take up extra sleeve length. This style is offered in M, L and XL.

What does the three-layer construction of the Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket do?

The Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket is a three-layer laminate: face fabric, ePE membrane and a bonded backer in one piece, with no separate lining to soak up water or slow down drying. Because the membrane is bonded rather than hung, the jacket keeps its shape over layers and moves without the clammy drag of a two-layer shell. Two fabric weights are combined in one garment: the heavier, more abrasion-resistant panels sit on the yoke and upper arms, the lighter fabric covers the body. Articulated patterning keeps the sleeves in place when you reach overhead.

Is the Beta AR Jacket suitable for ski touring and alpine climbing?

For ski touring and backcountry travel the Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket works well: pit zips vent the climb, the DropHood fits over a helmet and the RECCO reflector in the hood brim is standard. On the piste it will keep you dry, but it is an all-round mountain shell rather than a resort jacket, so expect no powder skirt and no pass pocket. Climbers should note the pocket layout is deliberately minimal, with two zippered hand pockets and one internal chest pocket, and that the front zip runs in one direction only, so you cannot open the hem to work above a harness. Without a helmet the hood is harder to stabilise in strong wind, and the collar sits low without its own adjustment.

What are the colours and how do you care for the jacket?

Black is a solid, flat black with no contrast panelling. Cloud / Void is a two-colour combination in the mid-grey range. The Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket is machine washable at a medium setting and can go in the tumble dryer on medium heat, which is what reactivates the DWR finish on the face fabric. Wash it on its own, close every zip and hook-and-loop fastening first, skip fabric softener and run a double rinse, since detergent residue is what usually dulls water repellency on a GORE-TEX PRO shell. Take it out of the machine straight away rather than leaving it wet, do not bleach, do not iron and do not dry clean.

How sustainable is the Beta AR Jacket?

The shell of the Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket uses recycled content and is dope dyed, a process that puts pigment into the fibre instead of dyeing finished fabric. It contains materials produced through processes that meet bluesign criteria, and the garment is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified facility. Both the ePE membrane and the DWR finish are free from intentionally added PFAS. As with any synthetic garment, washing can release plastic microfibres, so wash it only when it needs it.
