More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Coreloft™ Continuous sheets: no shifting fill
- Helmet-compatible StormHood™ with adjustment
- Hidden RECCO® reflector built into the shell
- No powder skirt and no ski pass pocket
- Pit zips are the only venting; fixed insulation
- Stocked in S and M only
The Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket is a men's insulated waterproof shell jacket: two-layer GORE-TEX with Coreloft™ Continuous synthetic insulation in the body and sleeves. It is built for cold-weather mountain use — alpine outings, winter hiking and lift-served skiing — where you want wind protection, rain and snow protection and warmth in one layer. Because Coreloft™ Continuous is a sheet construction rather than loose fill, the insulation stays where it was placed instead of shifting inside the panels.
Who is the Beta Insulated Jacket for?
Pick the Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket if you want one insulated GORE-TEX jacket for cold winter days in the mountains rather than a ski-specific jacket. It is not a resort piece in the strict sense: there is no powder skirt and no ski pass pocket. It is also the wrong tool for high-output uphill work such as ski touring in mild temperatures, because the insulation is fixed in place and pit zippers are the only venting. For mild, wet shoulder-season weather an uninsulated shell stays more versatile, and climbers who want a trim, minimal shell should look elsewhere.
How warm and weatherproof is this jacket?
Weather protection in the Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket comes from a two-layer GORE-TEX construction, stated by Arc'teryx as waterproof, windproof and breathable, closed by a full separating two-way front zip and topped with a helmet-compatible StormHood™ with adjustment. Warmth comes from Coreloft™ Continuous insulation across body and sleeves, so no separate insulating layer is needed in cold conditions. Pit zippers dump heat when the pace rises. The two hand pockets use WaterTight™ zippers, which are water resistant rather than waterproof — keep a phone or documents in the zippered internal security pocket instead.
Which size should you choose?
The Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket has a regular fit, cut comfortably through chest, waist, hip and thigh so it sits over a base layer and a midlayer as an outer layer. Articulated patterning through the sleeves and body keeps the hem and cuffs in place when you reach overhead. Measure your chest and compare it against the Arc'teryx men's tops size chart on this page before ordering. This article is stocked in S and M only, so there is limited scope to size around a personal fit preference.
How is the Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket constructed?
The Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket combines two jobs that are usually split across two garments. The outer side is a two-layer GORE-TEX construction: a waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane bonded to a face fabric, with a separate lining hanging inside rather than a laminated backer. Inside that shell sits Coreloft™ Continuous synthetic insulation through body and sleeves. Continuous means the insulation arrives as a stable sheet instead of loose fibre, so it does not clump or migrate towards the seams after repeated washing and packing. Heat management is handled mechanically: pit zippers for venting, a full separating two-way front zip, die-cut Velcro® cuff adjusters and dual lower hem drawcords to seal the bottom opening. A hidden RECCO® reflector is built in, which makes you detectable to RECCO® detectors used by many organised rescue services.
Is the Beta Insulated Jacket suitable for skiing and ski touring?
For lift-served skiing and snowboarding in cold conditions the Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket works well: the insulation handles chairlift time, the StormHood™ fits over a helmet and the hem drawcords keep spindrift out. What it does not have is the resort toolkit — no powder skirt, no ski pass pocket and no internal waist adjustment system — so deep-snow days and lift-pass convenience are better served by a ski-specific jacket. Arc'teryx itself positions the model for alpine use and hiking rather than as a dedicated ski jacket. For ski touring the limit is clearer still: the insulation cannot be removed and venting stops at the pit zippers, so on a long climb in mild temperatures you will overheat. Think of it as a cold-weather outer layer for alpine outings, winter hiking, resort days in real cold and wet, windy winter weather in town.
How do you look after this jacket?
Washing matters more on an insulated GORE-TEX garment than on a fleece, because dirt and detergent residue sit on the face fabric and slow the membrane down. Machine wash the Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Jacket on a low setting, on its own, with every zipper and cuff closure fastened. Skip fabric softener and bleach, and run a double rinse so no detergent stays behind in the insulation. A front-loading machine is the better choice; in a top loader, use a mesh bag to protect the face fabric from the agitator. Tumble dry low on a permanent press setting — gentle heat helps the shell recover its water-repellent behaviour and restores the loft of the Coreloft™ Continuous sheets. Do not iron and do not dry clean. Store it dry and hanging rather than compressed in a pack over summer, so the insulation keeps its volume for the next cold season.
