What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • GORE-TEX laminate: waterproof and windproof
  • RECCO reflector for emergency search
  • StormHood adjusts with one single pull
  • No insulation: a mid layer does the warming
  • No pit zips, venting via front zip only
  • No powder skirt and no ski pass pocket

The Arc'teryx Beta Jacket is an uninsulated men's GORE-TEX hardshell built for hiking and general mountain days in rain, wet snow and wind. It has no insulation at all: the laminate deals with the weather, your mid layer deals with the warmth. A low-profile StormHood with a single pull adjuster and a built-in RECCO reflector lift it above a simple rain shell.

Who is the Beta Jacket for?

This is the jacket for someone who wants one durable waterproof shell for hiking, alpine approaches and wet-weather travel, and who is happy to add warmth underneath rather than buy an insulated ski jacket. Arc'teryx lists hiking as the intended activity, and it works over a mid layer for resort skiing too. It is not a freeride or deep-snow jacket: there is no powder skirt and no ski pass pocket.

How weatherproof is the Arc'teryx Beta Jacket?

The shell is a GORE-TEX laminate, so it is waterproof, windproof and breathable, with a DWR finish on the face fabric that makes rain bead up and run off. Wind is stopped at the front by a WaterTight Vislon zip with a chin guard, and the fit is closed down with dual hem adjusters and hook-and-loop cuffs. There are no pit zips, so on a hard climb in mild weather you vent through the front zip and the hem only.

Which size should you choose in the Beta Jacket?

The Beta Jacket has a Regular fit: comfortable through chest, waist and hip, and intended to be taken in your usual size, with room for a fleece or a sweatshirt underneath. Go one size up only if you want a roomier shape or plan to layer heavier insulation. Measure your chest and waist and compare them with the Arc'teryx men's tops size chart instead of ordering on height and weight. Sleeves run long, so if you are around 170 cm or shorter, check sleeve length before you order. Available in S, M, L and XL, with the size run depending on the colour.

How is the Arc'teryx Beta Jacket constructed?

The Arc'teryx Beta Jacket is a hardshell: a GORE-TEX laminate that blocks water and wind while still letting moisture vapour move outwards, with a DWR finish on the outside so the surface does not soak up water. There is no fill and no separate lining, which keeps the jacket thin enough to pull over a fleece or a synthetic mid layer without bulk. The patterning is articulated through the arms and shoulders, so the hem stays where it belongs when you reach up for a hold or a trekking pole. The StormHood is cut close to the head, adjusts with one pull and keeps the weather off without blocking your view sideways. Inside, a laminated zip pocket takes a phone or a permit; outside there are two hand pockets.

Is the Beta Jacket suitable for resort skiing or ski touring?

For resort skiing the Arc'teryx Beta Jacket works as the outer layer over a mid layer, and the RECCO reflector adds a passive signal that organised rescue teams can search for. What it does not do is behave like a dedicated resort jacket: without a powder skirt, snow can push up under the hem in deep snow or after a fall, and there is no ski pass pocket on the sleeve. For ski touring and fast hiking the waterproof protection is there, but the venting is not — with no pit zips, dumping heat on a long climb means opening the front zip. Where this hardshell is at its best is a wet, windy mountain day on foot: rain, sleet, driving snow, exposed ridges.

How do you care for the Arc'teryx Beta Jacket?

Wash the jacket regularly rather than rarely — a clean face fabric is what keeps the DWR working and stops the surface wetting out. Close all fastenings, wash separately on a medium machine wash with no bleach and no fabric softener, run a double rinse, and take it out of the drum immediately instead of leaving it wet. A medium tumble dry afterwards reactivates the water-repellent finish. Do not dry clean and do not iron. As with any synthetic shell, washing can release plastic microfibres into the water system, so wash only when the jacket needs it.

What are the sustainability credentials of the Beta Jacket?

The Arc'teryx Beta Jacket is PFAS compliant and contains recycled content, along with materials produced in processes that meet bluesign criteria. The fabric is dope dyed, a colouring method applied at the fibre stage, and the jacket is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified facility.
