A lined jacket contains a filling of down, wool or synthetic material.
What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Only 276 g for a three-layer GORE-TEX ePE shell
- 3/4 side zips: on and off over hiking boots
- PFAS-free ePE membrane and FC0 DWR finish
- 39.8 cm leg opening: too narrow over ski boots
- No insulation; warmth comes from layers below
- One thigh pocket, no waist adjustment
The Arc'teryx Beta Pant is a women's three-layer GORE-TEX ePE shell pant for hiking and alpine climbing in sustained rain and wind. It weighs 276 grams, carries no insulation, and works purely as a waterproof, windproof outer layer you pull on over hiking trousers and stow in the pack the rest of the day. The membrane is PFAS-free ePE with a recycled GORE C-KNIT backer, paired with Chira nylon stretch inserts for freedom of movement on steep ground.
Who is the Arc'teryx Beta Pant for?
It suits a woman who hikes, treks, scrambles or climbs in wet mountain weather and wants a light shell pant that lives in the pack all season. Alpine approaches, multi-day trekking in rain and general storm protection over walking trousers are its home ground. It is not a ski pant: there is no powder cuff, no over-the-boot cut and no insulation, so resort skiing, freeride and cold standing around are the wrong jobs for it.
How waterproof and breathable is the Beta Pant?
The construction is three-layer GORE-TEX ePE: an 80d plain weave recycled nylon face fabric, the waterproof and windproof ePE membrane, and a recycled GORE C-KNIT backer against the skin. The face fabric carries an FC0 DWR finish free from intentionally added PFAS. Long three-quarter-length separating side zippers dump heat on climbs and let you get the pant on and off over footwear. A RECCO reflector is built in.
Which size should you choose in the Arc'teryx Beta Pant?
The Beta Pant has a regular fit and runs true to size, so take your usual Arc'teryx size. The cut leaves room through hip and thigh for hiking trousers or tights underneath. The low-profile stretch waistband has no manual adjustment, so check your waist and hip measurements against the women's bottoms size chart on this page. Leg opening is 39.8 cm at base size 4.
How is the Arc'teryx Beta Pant built?
The Arc'teryx Beta Pant is a three-layer laminate rather than a shell with a separate lining. An 80d plain weave recycled nylon face takes the abrasion, the GORE-TEX ePE membrane blocks water and wind, and the recycled GORE C-KNIT backer sits against your skin or your base layer. Chira nylon inserts with four-way stretch are set into the pattern where the leg bends, and the patterning itself is articulated, so the fabric follows a high step instead of pulling at the knee. Laminated instep patches protect the inner ankle from crampon points and boot edges. The hem carries eyelets for shock cord attachment.
Is the Beta Pant suitable for ski touring?
No. The leg opening measures 39.8 cm at base size 4, which clears most hiking and mountaineering boots but is tight over bulky ski touring boots and will not go over an alpine ski boot. The side zippers are three-quarter length and do not separate to the waist, so you cannot open the leg fully to drop it over a buckled boot. The 80d face fabric is chosen for low pack weight, not for the abrasion of ski edges. Where the Arc'teryx Beta Pant does work is the long wet approach, the alpine climb in weather, the rainy trekking day and the descent where you want wind and water off your legs with as little weight as possible.
What is the Beta Pant made of and how do you care for it?
The body is 100% nylon with an ePE and PU membrane, built as an 80d three-layer GORE-TEX ePE fabric with a C-KNIT backer and an FC0 DWR finish; the stretch panels are Chira nylon. Machine wash it on medium, on its own, with all fastenings closed and a double rinse, then tumble dry on medium heat. Skip fabric softener and bleach, and take it out of the machine straight away rather than leaving it wet. Arc'teryx notes that ePE face fabrics can wet out sooner than you might expect, and that washing and drying reactivates the DWR, so periodic re-treatment is part of owning this pant. Washing may release plastic microfibres into the environment.
What makes the Beta Pant more sustainable?
The GORE-TEX ePE membrane is PFAS-free and the FC0 DWR is free from intentionally added PFAS, making the Arc'teryx Beta Pant PFAS compliant. Both the face fabric and the GORE C-KNIT backer use recycled content, the backer is dope-dyed to cut water and energy use in dyeing, and the shell is listed as a bluepass material produced through processes meeting bluesign criteria. The pant is Fair Trade Certified and sewn at PT. Pancaprima Ekabrothers in Indonesia.
