More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. - Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 850 fill down at 290 g, packs into its own sack
- Coreloft 80 at 80 g/m2 in damp-prone zones
- 100% recycled Arato 15 shell, PFAS-compliant DWR
- No membrane: needs a shell in rain or wet snow
- Hood fits a climbing helmet, not a ski helmet
- Fitted cut: little room for a thick midlayer
The Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody Women's is a 290 g hooded down jacket built as an alpine midlayer and as a standalone layer in cold, dry conditions. It uses Down Composite Mapping: 850 fill European white goose down in the main warmth zones and Coreloft 80 synthetic insulation at 80 g/m2 in the areas where moisture builds up. The result is a lot of warmth for very little weight, in a jacket that packs into its own stuff sack.
Who is the Cerium Hoody Women's for?
It suits a woman who already owns a waterproof shell and wants a very light down layer that disappears underneath it on cold, dry mountain days, then works as a jacket on its own in town. Alpine climbing, hiking, belays and breaks, and resort skiing under a shell are its home ground. It is not an outer layer for skiing or snowboarding, and not a jacket for sustained rain or wet snow.
How warm and how weather resistant is the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody?
Warmth comes from 850 fill power European white goose down (minimum 90% down, RDS certified) backed by Coreloft 80 panels at 80 g/m2 where perspiration collects. Arc'teryx does not assign temperature ratings to this jacket. Weather protection stops at an FC0-DWR finish on the 15D Arato 15 face fabric: it sheds light, brief moisture, but there is no membrane, so put a waterproof shell over the Cerium Hoody once it rains or snows properly.
Which size should you choose in the Cerium Hoody Women's?
Arc'teryx cuts this as a Fitted garment: close through chest, waist and hip, with low bulk so it slides under a hardshell. Centre back length is 62 cm in size S and grows with each size. Stock runs S, M and L. Wear it over a base layer or a thin midlayer; a thick fleece underneath will fill the cut. Check your chest and waist against the women's tops size chart on this page before ordering.
How is the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody Women's constructed?
The construction principle is Down Composite Mapping. Arc'teryx places 850 fill European white goose down in the zones that do the warmth work, and Coreloft 80 synthetic insulation, at 80 g/m2, in the zones where moisture tends to collect, because down loses most of its loft once damp. The shell is Arato 15, a 15D recycled N6 microrip nylon in 100% recycled nylon with jigger and dope dyed yarns; the liner is a 10D x 20D ripstop in 100% nylon. Articulated patterning keeps the sleeves with you when you reach up. The whole jacket weighs 290 g and compresses into an included stuff sack that clips inside the internal pocket and comes out by undoing the loop. The reverse coil centre-front zipper is deliberately light, and Arc'teryx notes it can feel more delicate than a heavier zipper.
Is the Cerium Hoody Women's suitable for skiing and alpine climbing?
For alpine climbing, hiking and rock days the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody Women's is the layer you pull on at the belay or the summit and stuff away again. The insulated StormHood with its single-pull adjuster fits over a smaller climbing helmet; it is not sized for a ski or snowboard helmet. For resort skiing, wear it as an insulating midlayer under a waterproof shell rather than on the outside: it is described as wind resistant, but it is not a wind layer for exposed lift rides, and the 15D face fabric is built for low weight rather than for scraping against rock, packs or chairlifts. In high-output efforts the down will be more warmth than you want.
What is the Cerium Hoody made of, and how do you wash it?
Shell and liner are nylon, the down is 100% white goose down at a minimum of 90% down content, and the Coreloft 80 padding is polyester. Fabric is woven and dyed in Japan and the jacket is sewn in Vietnam. Wash it gently at low temperature in a front load machine, or in a mesh bag in a top loader, with a double rinse and no fabric softener, which would coat the down and the DWR. Tumble dry low with a few tennis balls to break the clumps and bring the loft back. No bleach, no dry cleaning, no ironing.
How sustainable is the Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody Women's?
The down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard by IDFL (No. TE-99950273). The Arato 15 shell is 100% recycled nylon coloured with dope dyed yarns, and the liner is a plant-based, bio-derived material that reduces petroleum use. The insulation padding is a bluepass material and the jacket is listed under bluesign approved materials. The FC0-DWR finish is fluorocarbon-free and PFAS compliant, and the jacket is made in a Fair Trade Certified facility. Note that washing it may release plastic microfibres.
