What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • Three-layer GORE-TEX ePE shell at just 210 g
  • PFAS-free membrane and FC0 DWR finish
  • Packs down small; RECCO reflector built in
  • No insulation: needs a warm midlayer in cold
  • 15 denier face fabric: light before abrasion
  • No pit zips; venting relies on the membrane

The Arc'teryx Coelle Jacket Women's is a 210 g three-layer GORE-TEX ePE shell jacket built for hiking and for everyday rain and wind. It carries no insulation and packs down for carrying, so it works as a waterproof outer layer over your own midlayer rather than as a winter jacket. What sets it apart is the combination of a PFAS-free ePE membrane, a GORE C-KNIT backer and a 15 denier recycled nylon face: full weather protection at a weight you stop noticing in a daypack.

Who is the Coelle Jacket Women's for?

It suits a woman who wants one light, packable, genuinely waterproof shell for day hikes, travel and city wear, and who adds her own warmth underneath. It is not a ski jacket: the Coelle has no powder skirt and no pass pocket. It is also not the shell for scrambling or for long days under a loaded pack, because a 15 denier face fabric is at the fine end of shell fabrics.

How waterproof and breathable is the Arc'teryx Coelle?

The body is a three-layer laminate: a 15 denier recycled nylon face with an FC0 DWR finish, an ePE and PU membrane, and a GORE C-KNIT backer as the inner layer. Wind is stopped by the laminate itself. There are no pit zips, so moisture management depends entirely on the membrane. For several hours of continuous heavy rain, or multi-day travel in persistently wet weather, a heavier shell is the better tool.

Which size should you choose in the Coelle Jacket?

Arc'teryx cuts the Coelle Jacket Women's in a regular fit: comfortable through chest, waist, hip and thigh, with room for a fleece or an insulated hoody underneath. In size M the chest measures around 115.5 cm and the centre back around 61.3 cm. Treat garment lengths as indicative and check the women's size chart on this page. Here the jacket is offered in S, M and L.

How is the Arc'teryx Coelle Jacket Women's constructed?

The Coelle Jacket Women's is a three-layer hardshell, which means face fabric, membrane and backer are bonded into one single textile. The face is 15 denier recycled nylon treated with an FC0 DWR finish that contains no intentionally added PFAS, so rain beads up instead of soaking into the outer surface. Behind it sits a GORE-TEX ePE membrane with a PU membrane layer, and the inner side is a GORE C-KNIT backer rather than a loose lining. That laminate is why the whole jacket weighs 210 g and still blocks wind completely. Articulated patterning keeps the sleeves in place when you reach up, the StormHood has a precision adjustment system and full coverage without cutting into your peripheral vision, and the hem runs on a drawcord. Two zippered hand pockets, a RECCO reflector and a printed sleeve logo complete it.

Is the Coelle Jacket suitable for hiking, travel and city wear?

Hiking is the activity Arc'teryx built the Coelle around, and that is where it makes most sense: a shell you carry packed down all day and pull on when the weather turns on a ridge or at a pass. Because it compresses and weighs 210 g, it travels well — one shell for a flight, a city weekend and a trail. Many riders and runners use it as an emergency layer for the same reason. Where it stops is equally clear. It gives no warmth on its own, so below freezing you need an insulated midlayer under it. In hot, humid conditions at high output the lack of mechanical venting is felt, since there are no pit zips. And if a clean hem line matters to you, note that the Coelle sits shorter than an Atom Hoody, so a longer insulated layer will show below the back hem.

What is the Coelle Jacket made of and how do you wash it?

The body of the Arc'teryx Coelle Jacket Women's is 100% nylon with an ePE and PU membrane and a 100% nylon backing, built up as a three-layer ePE GORE-TEX fabric. Care is straightforward: machine wash on a medium setting, separately, with all fastenings closed, then rinse twice. Skip fabric softener and bleach, both of which sit on the face fabric and work against the DWR finish. Do not leave the jacket sitting wet in the drum; take it out and tumble dry on normal at medium heat. Do not iron and do not dry clean.

What makes the Coelle a more sustainable shell?

The GORE-TEX ePE membrane and the FC0 DWR finish are free from intentionally added PFAS. The face fabric uses recycled nylon, the backer is dope dyed, and the jacket contains materials produced through processes that meet bluesign criteria. It is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified facility, Santa Clara Company Limited in Vietnam, with fabric and dyeing from China. Arc'teryx notes that the fabric can release plastic microfibres during washing, which is one more reason to wash it only when it needs it.
