More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

- Harness-friendly waist adjuster and thigh pocket
- Brushed inner face for cool, windy mountain days
- Gusseted crotch, articulated knees and seat
- Not built for skiing: no snowsport features
- Water repellent, not waterproof in lasting rain
- Low rise, slim cut; Regular inseam only here
The Arc'teryx Gamma Pant is a women's uninsulated softshell trouser built for hiking, rock climbing and alpine approaches in cool, windy or showery mountain weather. The air-permeable stretch woven fabric has a brushed inner face, and the low-profile ladder lock waist adjuster with its offset buckle is shaped to sit under a climbing harness or a pack hipbelt. This is a mountain trouser, not a ski pant.
Who is the Gamma Pant for?
The Arc'teryx Gamma Pant suits a woman who hikes and climbs year-round and wants one close-fitting softshell trouser for wind, drizzle and rock contact. The gusseted crotch, articulated knees and seat and the zippered thigh pocket that stays reachable with a harness on point straight at climbing, scrambling and via ferrata terrain. It is not for skiing, ski touring or snowboarding: Arc'teryx does not recommend this trouser for snow use, it has no snowsport features and it is not cut to go over a ski boot.
How much weather protection does the Gamma Pant offer?
The Gamma Pant is wind resistant and water repellent, not waterproof. The face fabric carries an FC0-DWR finish that is PFAS compliant, which sheds drizzle and wet rock spray, and the weave stays air-permeable so heat escapes on climbs. In sustained or heavy rain the fabric will wet through, so carry a hardshell for real weather. There is no insulation: warmth comes from the brushed backer and from what you wear underneath.
Which size should you choose?
Arc'teryx cuts the Gamma Pant as a Fitted trouser, close through the waist, hip and thigh, with a trim leg that keeps your feet in view while climbing. Measure your waist, hip and inseam and compare them with the women's bottoms size chart on this page rather than ordering your usual number. A base layer fits underneath; a thick insulated midlayer does not. The rise is low, so if you prefer a high waist, choose another model.
How is the Arc'teryx Gamma Pant built?
The Arc'teryx Gamma Pant is a woven softshell with no membrane and no insulation. The fabric stretches in use and is air-permeable by design, which is the trade-off the Gamma family makes: it moves air and moisture while a hardshell blocks both. The inner face is brushed, so the trouser feels warm against the skin and takes the edge off wind without adding bulk. An FC0-DWR treatment on the outside, PFAS compliant, makes water bead and roll off. Construction details carry the climbing intent: a gusseted crotch, articulated patterning through the knees and seat, drawstring closures at the cuffs, and a ladder lock waist adjuster with an offset buckle so nothing stacks up under a harness buckle or a hipbelt.
Is the Gamma Pant suitable for climbing and hiking?
Climbing and hiking in cool weather is exactly what the Gamma Pant does. Two zippered hand pockets and one zippered thigh pocket stay usable with a harness on, the trim leg lets you see your feet on technical ground, and the woven fabric takes abrasion from rock better than a knit. Alpine approaches, scrambling and via ferrata terrain all sit inside its range, worn on its own or under a hardshell. It stops at two points. In real heat it runs warm and can feel clammy on sustained uphill work, and in lasting rain it is only water repellent, so wet weather beyond showers needs a waterproof shell over the top. For alpine skiing, ski touring or snowboarding, choose a snow-specific trouser instead.
How do you care for the Gamma Pant?
Machine wash the Gamma Pant on a low temperature, wash dark colours separately and run a double rinse so no detergent stays in the weave. Skip fabric softener: it coats the fibres and flattens the water-repellent finish. Tumble drying on low heat is allowed and helps reactivate the DWR, and you can iron on low. Do not bleach and do not dry clean. One point worth knowing from owners who use the trouser hard: the seat panel can pill over a long season of camp and trail use, which is cosmetic rather than structural.
What makes the Gamma Pant more sustainable?
The Gamma Pant is made with materials produced through processes that meet bluesign criteria, the lining is a bluepass material, and the body combines recycled content with a bluepass material and the PFAS-compliant FC0 DWR finish. It is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified facility. Like other synthetic fabrics, it can shed plastic microfibres in the wash, so wash it only when it needs it.
What is stocked here?
This listing of the Arc'teryx Gamma Pant covers Black only, in the Regular (R) inseam, in sizes 6, 8 and 10. The model itself exists in Short, Regular and Tall lengths, so a leg length outside the Regular range cannot be corrected within this listing.
