What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • Unfixed brim: fold it or unroll it over the ears
  • One unisex toque for the lift and for town
  • Abstract Arc'teryx bird logo centre front
  • No membrane: no rain, snow or wind protection
  • Hand wash cold and dry flat only, no machine
  • One size: nothing for very small or large heads

The Arc'teryx Grotto Toque is a mid-length unisex knit beanie, sold in one size, made for head warmth on the chairlift and on the walk home. Its defining detail is the unfixed brim: fold it for a shorter cut, or unroll it for extra coverage over the ears and the back of the neck. An abstract interpretation of the Arc'teryx bird sits centre front.

Who is the Arc'teryx Grotto Toque for?

This is for the skier who wants one straightforward knit toque that covers resort days, touring and freeride laps and still looks right in town. It is not the hat to choose if you need a thin liner underneath a close-fitting ski or snowboard helmet: the Grotto Toque is a mid-length knit and is not designed for that job. It is also the wrong choice for driving rain or wet snow, and for long exposure to strong wind as your only head layer.

How warm is the Arc'teryx Grotto Toque?

Warmth in the Grotto Toque comes from the knit alone. There is no membrane, no insulation panel and no weather-repellent treatment, so treat it as a single-layer beanie: good for days around freezing with the brim unrolled over the ears, and better under a hood once the wind gets up or the temperature drops hard.

Which size is the Grotto Toque?

The Arc'teryx Grotto Toque comes in one size only (OSFA), cut as a unisex beanie worn by men and women alike. The brim is unfixed, so you set the depth yourself: folded once it sits above the ears, unrolled it reaches down over them. Because there is a single size, very small and very large head circumferences have no alternative option to fall back on.

How is the Arc'teryx Grotto Toque built?

The Arc'teryx Grotto Toque is a knit beanie in mid length, with no membrane, no laminate and no separate insulation layer in the construction. The one structural choice that changes how it wears is the unfixed brim: it is not stitched down, so you can roll it up for a shallower fit or leave it unrolled to gain coverage over the ears and the nape. The Arc'teryx bird logo is placed centre front as an abstract interpretation rather than a literal badge, which keeps the front of the toque plain from a few metres away.

Does the Grotto Toque work for ski touring and freeride days?

Yes, within its limits. Arc'teryx places the Grotto Toque across resort skiing, ski touring, freeride and general alpine use, and that is a fair description of where a knit beanie earns its place: on the lift, on the skin track at a steady pace, at the trailhead, in the car park, and in town afterwards. It is one hat for the whole day rather than a specialist piece. Where it stops is equally clear. There is no windproof layer and no lining, so on an exposed ridge or a cold lift in wind you will want a hood over the top. There is no waterproof rating and no water-repellent finish, so sustained rain or heavy wet snow will soak the knit. And it is not a helmet liner: nothing about a mid-length knit toque is designed to sit under a snug helmet shell without bunching.

How do you wash the Arc'teryx Grotto Toque?

Care for the Grotto Toque is deliberately low-tech and does ask something of you. Hand wash it in cold water and dry it flat; it is not a machine-wash item, which is less convenient than much everyday headwear. Wash dark colourways separately, especially the first few times, and keep bleach, fabric softener, dry cleaning and the iron away from the knit. Do not wring it out after washing. Squeeze the water out gently and lay the toque flat in its natural shape so the brim does not stretch out of line while it dries.

Which colourways does the Grotto Toque come in?

The Arc'teryx Grotto Toque is offered here in four two-tone combinations: Black / Void, Eden / Black, Rune / Arctic Silk and Moonstone / Electra. Each pairs a main knit colour with a second tone, so the toque reads as a quiet two-colour piece rather than a single flat block.
