What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

  • Vibram Megagrip, LITEBASE, 4 mm mud-shedding lugs
  • 270 g stated, 6 mm drop, 25/19 mm stack height
  • PFAS-free woven upper with TPU reinforcement
  • No membrane: wet feet in rain, grass and slush
  • Runs large; take half a size down on length
  • Standard D width only, no wide-fit version

The Arc'teryx Norvan LD 4 is a men's long-distance trail running shoe built for mud, roots and rock, with a dual-density midsole, a 6 mm drop and a Vibram Megagrip outsole using LITEBASE technology. Stated weight is 270 g. It carries no waterproof membrane, which keeps the woven upper breathing but makes this a dry- to damp-condition shoe rather than a winter or wet-weather one.

Who is the Norvan LD 4 for?

The Arc'teryx Norvan LD 4 suits trail runners covering long training and adventure distances on technical, mixed ground, who want cushioning and traction more than weather protection. It is not a shoe for running in snow, slush or ice, and it is not intended for skiing, ski touring or any snowsport use. If you want the same shoe with weather protection, the Norvan LD 4 GTX exists; for cold, wet winter running Arc'teryx points to the Norvan 4 Nivalis GTX. It is also not an approach shoe: the platform is deliberately lighter, softer and more flexible than Arc'teryx approach footwear.

How much cushioning and grip does the Norvan LD 4 give?

Stack height on the Arc'teryx Norvan LD 4 trail running shoe is 25 mm at the heel and 19 mm at the forefoot, a 6 mm offset. The dual-density midsole combines cushioning with shock absorption and support, and the custom 4 mm lug pattern is shaped to release mud. The outsole is Vibram Megagrip with LITEBASE. The shoe has not been tested or certified as slip-resistant, so it is not an occupational shoe for oily or wet floors.

Which size should you choose?

Arc'teryx states that the Norvan LD 4 runs large: measure your foot length against the footwear size chart and take half a size down if you measure close to a size boundary. Only a standard D width is offered, with no wide option. This shop carries sizes 7.5 to 10.5.

How is the Arc'teryx Norvan LD 4 constructed?

The Arc'teryx Norvan LD 4 trail running shoe is built around a dual-density midsole that pairs cushioning with shock absorption and support, set at a 6 mm offset. The upper uses two woven PFAS-free materials mapped across the foot, so flex and breathability sit where the foot bends and targeted abrasion resistance sits where rock and scree hit, backed by flexible laminated TPU reinforcement zones. A flexible external frame runs around the midfoot to stop the foot sliding forward and to limit toe bang on long descents. The lacing system is designed to lock the midfoot and prevent heel backslip, a tongue pocket stores the lace ends against bounce and snagging, and a form-moulded sockliner sits under a flat-knit tongue that wraps the foot.

Is the Norvan LD 4 suitable for long distances on technical trail?

Long distance is the brief. The Arc'teryx Norvan LD 4 is aimed at adventure runs and long training sessions over mud, roots and rock, and it also works on hardpack and soft trails. The custom 4 mm lug pattern sheds mud instead of packing it, and Vibram Megagrip with LITEBASE keeps outsole weight down at a stated 270 g. Where it stops is clear. There is no membrane and no stated water-repellent treatment, so your feet will be wet in rain, wet grass, stream crossings and slush. There is no insulation and no gaiter, and 4 mm lugs are not a tread for snow or ice. On edges and loose rock the flexible running platform gives less underfoot rigidity than a stiff approach or hiking sole, and Arc'teryx does not position this shoe for medical support needs such as plantar fasciitis.

What is the Norvan LD 4 made of and how do you clean it?

The upper of the Arc'teryx Norvan LD 4 combines two woven PFAS-free materials with laminated TPU reinforcement. The lining and insole are textile and the outsole is rubber. Care is straightforward but strict: surface clean only. Do not put these shoes through a washing machine. Two practical durability points from owners of this generation are worth knowing before you buy: several report the midfoot and the area over the ball of the foot feeling tighter than the previous Norvan LD, and the flat-knit tongue is thin enough that some feel the laces pressing on the top of the foot. One long-term owner reports the upper wearing through at the forefoot flex point, where it meets the rubber rand, before the outsole was finished.

How sustainable is the Norvan LD 4?

The Arc'teryx Norvan LD 4 is PFAS compliant, and the two woven materials in the upper are PFAS-free. The shoe is manufactured at Freetrend Industrial (Vietnam) Co. Ltd. in Vietnam.
