What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 750 fill down plus Coreloft in damp zones
  • 2L GORE-TEX ePE, 200d nylon face at 190 g/m2
  • 98 cm centre back length at size S
  • No powder skirt, pass pocket or RECCO
  • No waist or hem drawcord against cold air
  • No vent zips: heat builds on uphill efforts

The Arc'teryx Patera Parka Women's is a thigh-length, down-insulated waterproof parka for cold, wet winter days in town and on winter walks. A 2-layer GORE-TEX ePE shell with PU membrane covers 750 fill power European grey goose down, with Coreloft synthetic insulation mapped into the hood and other moisture-prone zones so the warmth survives wet weather. It is deliberately free of ski hardware: no powder skirt, no pass pocket, no RECCO reflector.

Who is the Patera Parka Women's for?

It suits a woman who wants one long, genuinely waterproof down parka for winter commuting, travel, dog walks and winter hiking, and who prefers a clean, close cut over technical snowsport features. Arc'teryx lists hiking as the intended activity. It is not built for ski touring or fast uphill winter walking, because there are no ventilation zips to dump heat, and not for lift-served skiing or freeride, where a powder skirt and a helmet-compatible hood matter.

How warm and how waterproof is the Patera Parka?

Warmth comes from two sources: 750 fill power grey goose down in the main body zones and 60 g/m2 synthetic insulation (80% recycled chopped staple polyester) where moisture collects, including the hood. That means warmth is not uniform across the parka, and several customers report the insulation feels light for a full winter parka. Weather protection comes from the 2L GORE-TEX ePE membrane, a 200d recycled nylon face at 190 g/m2 and an FC0-DWR finish on both shell and lining. Arc'teryx publishes no temperature rating for this parka.

Which size should you choose in the Patera Parka Women's?

Arc'teryx cuts the Patera Parka as Fitted: close through chest, waist, hip and thigh, with room for a base layer and a thin to mid-weight layer rather than a thick fleece. Centre back length is 98 cm at size S, so the hem sits low on shorter wearers. Compare your chest, waist and hip measurements against the Arc'teryx women's tops size chart on this page. Sizes S, M and L.

How is the Arc'teryx Patera Parka Women's built?

The Arc'teryx Patera Parka Women's uses a 2-layer construction: a 200d recycled nylon face fabric of 190 g/m2 bonded to a GORE-TEX ePE membrane with PU, and a separate 20d downproof recycled nylon lining of 42 g/m2 that keeps the fill in place. Between them sits Down Composite Mapping, the brand's approach of placing 750 fill power European grey goose down in the dry body zones and 60 g/m2 Coreloft-type synthetic insulation in the areas that absorb moisture, the hood included. Detailing is sparse and functional: a lightly insulated neck gasket, internal cuff gaskets, a two-way front zipper, two concealed zippered hand pockets and one internal zippered security pocket. Total weight is 895 g.

Does the Patera Parka work for everyday winter use and at a ski resort?

On the school run, the commute, a town day in sleet or a long winter walk, this parka does exactly what it was patterned for: the long cut covers the hips and thighs, the two-way zipper lets you open the hem to sit or stride, and the GORE-TEX ePE shell handles steady winter rain and wet snow. Around a ski resort it works for the low-output parts of the day, off the slopes. On the hill it stops short. There are no ventilation zips, so heat builds quickly once you work hard, and no waist or hem drawcord, which one customer links to cold air reaching the waist on windy days. The hand pockets are modest in volume and there is no harness-friendly pocket placement, so climbers and tourers are better served by a shell-plus-midlayer setup.

What are the materials and how do you care for the Patera Parka?

The shell and lining are both 100% nylon with recycled content and an FC0-DWR finish, which is PFAS compliant. The down is 100% grey goose down, minimum 90% down, and the synthetic insulation is 100% polyester with 80% recycled content. Machine wash it on its own at medium temperature on a permanent press cycle, close every fastening first, rinse twice and skip the fabric softener. Tumble dry low with a few tennis balls to break up the down clusters. Do not dry clean and do not iron. Arc'teryx notes that the current face fabric feels thicker and stiffer than earlier Patera generations and softens with wear and washing. A number of customers report problems with the front zipper, from sticking to splitting.

How sustainable is the Patera Parka Women's?

Shell, lining and padding all use bluesign approved, bluepass materials with recycled content. All of the down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard by IDFL, and the parka is sewn at a Fair Trade Certified facility, Youngone Nam Dinh Company Ltd in Vietnam. Like all synthetic textiles, it may release plastic microfibres when washed.
