What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

Product information
  • Snaps to the Sabre Jacket powder skirt at the seat
  • Brushed flannel backer inside the GORE-TEX shell
  • RECCO reflector and reinforced instep patch
  • Uninsulated: needs a base layer on cold lift days
  • Two short thigh vents, no full-length side zips
  • Waist pant, not a bib; regular lengths only

The Arc'teryx Sabre Pant is an uninsulated GORE-TEX hardshell pant for men who ski and snowboard at the resort and in the terrain just outside the ropes. It pairs a waterproof, windproof and breathable GORE-TEX construction with a brushed softshell flannel backer on the inside of the shell fabric, so the pant feels soft and lightly warm without carrying any insulation. Snap connectors at the seat join it to the powder skirt of the Sabre Jacket, closing the gap between jacket and pant on deep days.

Who is the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant for?

This is a shell pant for a resort-based skier or snowboarder who rides in wet, windy snow and wants weather protection rather than built-in warmth: powder cuffs, thigh vents, cargo pockets and a RECCO reflector in one garment. The Sabre Pant is not built for uphill-focused touring, and it is not a bib, so snow protection depends on the elasticated powder cuffs and the snap connection to the jacket. If you want to ride long, static lift days in deep cold without a layer underneath, choose an insulated pant instead.

How much protection and warmth does the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant give?

Weather protection comes from the GORE-TEX membrane construction, backed by a DWR finish on the face fabric that keeps snow and spray beading off. The Arc'teryx Sabre Pant has no insulation; the brushed flannel backer adds comfort against the skin and a little warmth, nothing more. Two zippered thigh vents release heat on warm laps, and with no mesh behind them they open directly onto the layer underneath.

Which size should you choose?

The waist of the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant is adjusted by an integrated belt, with external loops for a separate belt. Compare your waist, thigh and inseam measurements against the men's bottoms size chart on this page before ordering. This style comes in regular lengths only, in S, M, M/R, L, L/R, XL, XL/R and 2XL, and availability differs per colour.

How is the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant constructed?

The Arc'teryx Sabre Pant is built around a GORE-TEX membrane construction that blocks water and wind while still moving moisture vapour outwards. On the inside of the shell fabric sits a brushed softshell flannel backer: it takes the cold, clammy feel out of a hardshell and gives a little warmth, which is why many riders wear this pant over nothing more than a base layer. A DWR finish on the outer face keeps snow and spray from soaking into the surface. At the instep, a reinforced patch protects the hem where ski and board edges make contact. The waist uses an integrated adjustable belt, with external loops if you prefer to run a belt of your own over the top.

Is the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant suitable for ski touring?

For downhill use the Sabre Pant is in its element: resort laps, chopped-up afternoon snow and short sidecountry descents just outside the ropes, where wind and wet snow matter more than breathability. For uphill days it stops short. Ventilation is limited to two short zippered thigh vents, there are no full-length side zips, and the pant cannot be pulled on or off over ski boots, so it is awkward for transitions and for dumping heat on a long skin track. Elasticated powder cuffs seal the hem over your boots, and snap connectors at the seat link the pant to the powder skirt of the Arc'teryx Sabre Jacket for riders who want the two pieces working as one system. A RECCO reflector is built in, which passive search and rescue teams can locate with a RECCO detector; it is not an avalanche transceiver and does not replace one.

What are the materials and how do you care for the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant?

Keeping the Arc'teryx Sabre Pant performing is mostly a matter of washing it. Machine wash at medium temperature, on its own, with all fastenings closed and no fabric softener, then double rinse and tumble dry at medium heat. Heat reactivates the DWR, so a tumble dry cycle after washing is what brings the water beading back when the face fabric starts to darken and wet out. Take the pant out of the machine straight away rather than leaving it wet, and skip bleach, dry cleaning and ironing. One honest note on durability: owner feedback on the Sabre line reports scuffing and cuts where the fabric is repeatedly dragged over sharp edges, for example when skis or a board are carried against the leg. That is customer perception rather than a specification, but it is worth factoring in if you regularly bootpack with your skis on your shoulder.
