More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. - Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 268 g with carbon-fibre plate and 6 mm drop
- Vibram Megagrip outsole with LITEBASE technology
- 31.5/25.5 mm stack, rockered supercritical foam
- No membrane: wet feet in rain and creek crossings
- Standard D width, no wide toe box
- 4.5 mm lugs: too shallow for deep mud
The Arc'teryx Sylan 2 Shoe is a men's trail running shoe for fast running on dry to moderately technical trails. It combines a rockered midsole of supercritical foam with a carbon-fibre plate and a Vibram Megagrip outsole with LITEBASE technology, at a weight of 268 g. There is no waterproof membrane in this model, so it is built around airflow and forward propulsion rather than weather protection.
Who is the Arc'teryx Sylan 2 Shoe for?
The Sylan 2 suits a trail runner chasing speed over long distances: fast training loops, long efforts and races, and the gravel or road sections that link one trail to the next. It is not the shoe for rocky, highly technical ground where maximum stability and a firm, protective platform come first, and Arc'teryx does not present the Sylan 2 as a winter running shoe, since traction on packed snow, ice and slush can be limited. If you need dry feet in rain and stream crossings, choose a shoe with a membrane instead.
How much cushioning and drop does the Sylan 2 have?
Stack height on the Arc'teryx Sylan 2 Shoe is 31.5 mm at the heel and 25.5 mm at the forefoot, giving a 6 mm drop. The supercritical foam compound and the carbon-fibre plate work with the rocker shape to roll the foot forward and add stability on trail terrain. Underfoot, stepped lugs of 4.5 mm and 3.5 mm in Vibram Megagrip rubber provide traction and shed dirt; that is a moderate depth, aimed at trail grip rather than deep mud.
Which size should you choose?
The Sylan 2 is built on a standard D width with a regular fit that holds the foot, and it has no wide toe box. Measure your foot and compare it with the Arc'teryx footwear size chart on this page before ordering. Runners with wide or high-volume feet should try the shoe on first. Sizes run from 8 to 11 in half steps, with a lace-up closure rather than a slip-on construction.
How is the Arc'teryx Sylan 2 midsole built?
The midsole of the Arc'teryx Sylan 2 Shoe uses a supercritical foam compound shaped into a rocker, with a carbon-fibre plate running through it. The foam carries the cushioning and the energy return; the plate adds stability on trail terrain and keeps the rocker working as the ground changes underfoot. The geometry is a 6 mm drop built from 31.5 mm of stack at the heel and 25.5 mm at the forefoot, which places the Sylan 2 among the cushioned, propulsive trail shoes rather than the low, ground-feel designs.
Is the Sylan 2 Shoe suitable for long trail races?
Long, fast days are where the Sylan 2 was aimed: runnable singletrack, forest road, gravel and the tarmac links between trail sections, at 268 g per shoe. On rocky, highly technical ground the trade-off becomes visible, because this is a softer and less firmly supported platform than a stability-focused trail shoe. The 4.5 mm and 3.5 mm stepped lugs hold on dry and moderately loose trail surfaces and release mud rather than packing it, but deep mud asks for a deeper lug. Snow, ice and slush are outside the intended use of this shoe, and so is any ski, ski touring, freeride or mountaineering use.
What is the upper made of and how do you clean it?
The Arc'teryx Sylan 2 Shoe uses an engineered woven upper with an integrated flat-knit tongue and a flat-knit collar. The integrated tongue wraps the foot and keeps airflow going; the knit collar sits close to the ankle to deflect trail debris from entering the shoe. Inside, the lining is textile and the insole is textile and synthetic, and the outsole is rubber. Care is simple but specific: clean the surface only. The Sylan 2 is not a machine-washable shoe, so after a muddy run brush off the dried dirt and wipe the upper rather than putting it through a cycle. Letting the shoes dry at room temperature, away from direct heat, keeps the foam and the bonded construction intact.
Does the Sylan 2 have a waterproof version?
No. There is no membrane in the Arc'teryx Sylan 2 Shoe and no waterproof variant of this model, which is a deliberate choice in favour of a light, airy upper. In rain, stream crossings and deep puddles your feet will get wet. If most of your running happens in those conditions, a membrane trail shoe is the better buy; if you run mainly in dry to damp conditions and value weight and airflow, the open construction is an advantage.
What about chemicals and sustainability?
The Sylan 2 Shoe is PFAS compliant. It is made at a manufacturing facility in Vietnam.
