What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 3-layer HELLY TECH Professional, fully seam sealed
  • Helmet hood with vertical and horizontal adjustment
  • RECCO reflector, powder skirt and ski pass pocket
  • Uninsulated: needs a warm midlayer on cold days
  • Boxy, relaxed cut: not for a slim, close fit
  • Roomy cut is less streamlined for uphill touring

The Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Jacket is a men's 3-layer hardshell ski jacket built with HELLY TECH Professional, so it is waterproof, windproof, breathable and fully seam sealed. It is made for the whole mountain, from terrain park and groomers to side country. What sets it apart is a relaxed, boxy cut inspired by Japanese design, with articulated elbows for freedom of movement.

Who is the Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Jacket for?

The Emiko Shell Jacket suits skiers who want one weatherproof shell for resort days, off-piste runs and backcountry outings, and who prefer room to move over a trim silhouette. This ski jacket is uninsulated, so it works best for skiers who like to control warmth with their own layers. It is not the right choice if you want a warm jacket to wear on its own on cold days, if you prefer a slim or athletic cut, or if you need a shell for technical climbing and alpine mountaineering.

How waterproof and how warm is the Emiko Shell Jacket?

The Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Jacket blocks wind and wet snow with a 3-layer HELLY TECH Professional construction and fully sealed seams. A water repellent treatment on the 100% polyester shell makes moisture bead off, and tumble drying reactivates it. The jacket has no insulation: all warmth comes from the base layer and midlayer you wear underneath. On cold lift days, pair it with a warm midlayer.

Which size Emiko Shell Jacket should I choose?

The Emiko Shell Jacket has a relaxed, boxy fit with more volume than a trim ski jacket, which leaves room for a midlayer underneath. Check the size chart on this product page and compare it with your measurements taken over the layers you plan to ski in. If you want a close, streamlined fit, choose a ski jacket with a slimmer cut instead.

How is the Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Jacket constructed?

The Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Jacket uses a 3-layer construction: the HELLY TECH Professional membrane is laminated between the 100% polyester outer fabric and an inner layer, so the three work as one material. The membrane keeps rain, wet snow and wind out while letting moisture from your body escape. Every seam is sealed, which closes the needle holes where water would otherwise get through. A water repellent treatment on the outer fabric keeps the face from soaking up water. Because this ski jacket carries no insulation, it acts as the outer layer of a layering system: you choose the base layer and midlayer to match the day.

What protection does the Emiko Shell Jacket give in a storm?

The hood of the Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Jacket is helmet-compatible and adjusts both vertically and horizontally, so it follows your head when you turn instead of blocking your view. A neon colour brim and a soft fleece chin guard finish the hood and collar. Adjustable cuffs close over or under your gloves, and an adjustable powder skirt keeps snow out of the jacket after a fall or in deep snow.

Can you use the Emiko Shell Jacket off-piste and for ski touring?

The Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Jacket is built for resort skiing, off-piste, side country and backcountry skiing, and it also works for ski touring and snowshoeing. For days away from the groomed runs it carries a RECCO reflector, which rescue teams can locate with a RECCO detector. On the climb, an uninsulated shell lets you strip down to light layers underneath. The relaxed, boxy cut does have more volume than a trim touring shell, so it is less streamlined for long uphill days. This ski jacket is not designed for technical climbing or alpine mountaineering; its cut and features are aimed at skiing.

What pockets does the Emiko Shell Jacket have?

The Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Jacket has two hand pockets and a chest pocket, all with YKK zippers, plus a zipped inner chest pocket for items you want to keep close. A dedicated ski pass pocket keeps your lift card in place. The design also works off the slopes as an everyday jacket in the ski village.

What is the Emiko Shell Jacket made of and how do you care for it?

The shell of the Helly Hansen Emiko Shell Jacket is 100% polyester. Before washing, close all zippers and hook-and-loop fastenings. Do not use fabric softener, do not soak the jacket and wash dark colours separately. Tumble dry the jacket to reactivate the water repellent treatment and remove it from the dryer promptly. Do not iron over the printed HH logo.
