What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • PrimaLoft 80 g insulation with pit zips for venting
  • Fusion system links to ski pants against snow entry
  • Snap-away powder skirt and helmet-compatible hood
  • Fixed 80 g insulation runs warm on long ascents
  • 900 g: heavy for weight-conscious ski touring
  • Relaxed cut: not a slim, close-fitting silhouette

The Helly Hansen Powderface Jacket is a men's insulated ski jacket for backcountry powder and off-piste skiing. It pairs a fully seam-sealed 2-layer HELLY TECH Performance membrane and 80 g PrimaLoft insulation with the Fusion modular system, which connects the jacket to your ski pants so snow stays out when the jacket rides up.

Who is the Helly Hansen Powderface Jacket for?

The Powderface Jacket is for skiers who head off-piste and into fresh snow and want a warm ski jacket with powder-specific details. These include a helmet-compatible hood, a snap-away adjustable powder skirt, a goggle pocket with goggle wipe and a ski pass pocket. It is not built for long ski-touring ascents or skimo-style uphill skiing, where a light, non-insulated shell works better. It is also not meant for technical climbing, high-alpine mountaineering or use as a packable emergency shell.

How warm and weatherproof is the Powderface Jacket?

The Helly Hansen Powderface ski jacket uses 80 g PrimaLoft synthetic insulation. The insulation is built in and cannot be removed, so the jacket runs warm on mild spring days and in warm resort conditions. Weather protection comes from a 2-layer HELLY TECH Performance membrane, fully sealed seams and a DWR treatment on the outer fabric. Pit zips under the arms let you dump heat on climbs or hard runs. The jacket weighs 900 g.

Which size Powderface Jacket should I choose?

The Helly Hansen Powderface Jacket has a relaxed cut with more volume than a slim, streamlined ski jacket. Articulated sleeves and 2-way mechanical stretch fabric add freedom of movement. Choose your size with the Helly Hansen men's jacket size chart on this product page. If you want a close-fitting silhouette, this relaxed cut will not give you that.

How is the Helly Hansen Powderface Jacket constructed?

The Helly Hansen Powderface Jacket is a 2-layer ski jacket built around the HELLY TECH Performance membrane. The outer fabric is 100% polyester with 2-way mechanical stretch and a Durable Water Repellency (DWR) treatment, and every seam is sealed. Inside, 80 g PrimaLoft insulation and two linings, one in 100% polyester and one in 100% polyamide, complete the build. YKK zippers are used throughout. This combination of membrane, insulation and lining makes the Powderface bulkier than an uninsulated 3-layer shell. The trade-off is that you get warmth and weather protection in one garment, with no need for a separate insulated midlayer to make the jacket work.

How does the Powderface Jacket handle off-piste powder days?

The Helly Hansen Powderface ski jacket is designed for deep snow. The Fusion modular system connects the jacket to your ski pants, which prevents ride-up and stops snow from getting in when you dig into fresh powder. The snap-away powder skirt is adjustable, and belt loops on the pants side work with the powder skirt attachment. The hood fits over a helmet and adjusts both vertically and horizontally, and a neon colour brim adds visibility. Adjustable cuffs with a fastener, elastic cuffs and an adjustable hem close the remaining gaps. For storage there is a goggle pocket with goggle wipe, a ski pass pocket, chest and hand pockets with brushed lining in the hand pockets, an inner chest pocket and an inside stash pocket.

Can you go ski touring in the Powderface Jacket?

The Helly Hansen Powderface Jacket handles backcountry days where you reach your lines with short climbs, and the pit zips let heat escape on the way up. On long ski-touring ascents and skimo-style uphill skiing it reaches its limit. The 80 g insulation is fixed, so you cannot reduce warmth for hard uphill efforts, and venting depends on the pit zips alone. At 900 g the jacket is also relatively heavy for weight-conscious touring. If you mostly skin for hours, a light, non-insulated shell is the better choice.

What is the Powderface Jacket made of and how do you care for it?

The shell of the Helly Hansen Powderface ski jacket is 100% polyester, the main lining is 100% polyester and the second lining is 100% polyamide. Before washing, close all zippers and the hook-and-loop fasteners. Wash the jacket with similar colours. Do not soak it and do not use fabric softener. Do not iron over the printed HH logo. If you use a dryer, remove the jacket promptly once the cycle ends.

Is the Helly Hansen Powderface Jacket a bluesign® product?
