More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 100 g PrimaLoft Black in puffer-style baffles
- Fully seam sealed 2-way stretch polyester shell
- Adjustable powder skirt, waist and hem
- Cropped cut: less cover at lower back and seat
- 100 g fill overheats on climbs and mild days
- Not a hardshell for long days in heavy wet snow
The Helly Hansen Nora Short Puffy Jacket is a women's insulated ski jacket for resort and piste skiing. Its puffer-style baffles hold 100 g PrimaLoft Black synthetic insulation. What sets it apart is the cropped silhouette, combined with a fully seam-sealed 2-way stretch polyester shell and a full set of ski details, including an adjustable powder skirt and a ski pass pocket.
Who is the Helly Hansen Nora Short Puffy Jacket for?
The Nora Short Puffy Jacket suits women who ski mainly on groomed runs in cold weather and want a warm insulated ski jacket with a shorter cut. It is not built for ski touring or other sustained uphill effort, where 100 g of insulation will make you overheat. If you want a hip-length ski jacket that covers your lower back and seat, choose a longer model.
How warm and weather-resistant is the Nora Short Puffy Jacket?
The Helly Hansen Nora Short Puffy Jacket uses 100 g PrimaLoft Black synthetic blowable insulation in stitched baffles. That makes it a warm jacket for cold days on the chairlift and on the piste. The shell is windproof, fully seam sealed and finished with a water repellent treatment. For long days in heavy wet snow or rain, a dedicated hardshell gives more protection. On mild spring days, this level of insulation is too warm.
Which size of the Nora Short Puffy Jacket should I choose?
The Nora Short Puffy Jacket has a regular fit with a cropped length and comes in sizes XS to XL, in a single length. An articulated cut and articulated sleeves give you freedom of movement when you pole and turn. The adjustable waist and hem let you tune how the bottom of the jacket sits. Compare your chest and waist measurements with the size chart on this product page before you order.
How is the Helly Hansen Nora Short Puffy Jacket constructed?
The Helly Hansen Nora Short Puffy Jacket is built from three polyester layers: a 2-way mechanical stretch shell, a 100 g PrimaLoft Black insulation layer and a polyester lining. The insulation is a synthetic blowable fill held in separate baffles, which creates the puffer look of this insulated ski jacket.
The shell of the Nora Short Puffy Jacket is 100% polyester, so its 2-way stretch is mechanical. The stretch comes from the fabric construction, not from added elastane. All seams are sealed, and the outer fabric carries a water repellent treatment that you reactivate by tumble drying. A YKK 2-way zipper lets you open the Helly Hansen Nora Short Puffy Jacket from the bottom as well as the top.
Is the Nora Short Puffy Jacket suitable for a full day of piste skiing?
The Helly Hansen Nora Short Puffy Jacket is designed as a resort ski jacket, and its details are chosen for days on the piste. An adjustable hood with drawcord, elastic and adjustable cuffs, and an adjustable powder skirt keep snow and wind out at the openings. Hand pockets with brushed lining warm your hands between runs, and a dedicated ski pass pocket keeps your lift pass in reach for the gates. The cropped length gives less coverage at the lower back and seat than a hip-length ski jacket. The powder skirt partly compensates for this.
The Helly Hansen Nora Short Puffy Jacket is a cold-weather resort piece, not a touring or mountaineering jacket. On the ascent of a ski tour, or during other high-exertion skiing, 100 g of synthetic insulation traps more heat than you need. Climbing and technical mountaineering are outside its purpose. Its waterproofing is moderate, so on long days in heavy wet snow or rain, a dedicated hardshell is the better choice.
What is the Nora Short Puffy Jacket made of and how do you wash it?
Every component of the Helly Hansen Nora Short Puffy Jacket is 100% polyester: the stretch shell, the lining and the PrimaLoft Black insulation. Close all zippers before washing, wash the jacket separately and do not soak it. Tumble dry the Nora Short Puffy Jacket with dryer balls. Tumble drying also reactivates the water repellent treatment on the shell, so do not skip the dryer after a wash.
