More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 60 g PrimaLoft Black Eco insulation built in
- Powder skirt, vent zips and ski-pass pocket
- RECCO reflector plus LIFE POCKET
- Fixed 60 g insulation runs warm on long climbs
- Insulated, not a shell for flexible layering
- Needs a warm midlayer on very cold days
The Helly Hansen Powchaser 2.0 Jacket is a women's insulated ski jacket with a waterproof, windproof and breathable HELLY TECH Performance membrane and 60 g PrimaLoft Black Eco insulation in a fully seam-sealed 2-layer construction. It is built for resort skiing and off-piste days, with an adjustable powder skirt, vent zips and a RECCO reflector.
Who is the Helly Hansen Powchaser 2.0 Jacket for?
The Powchaser 2.0 Jacket suits women who ski the resort and head off-piste on powder days and want warmth built into one ski jacket instead of a layering system. It also works for backcountry outings and snowshoeing. It is not the right choice if you want a pure shell for flexible layering, or if you plan long, sustained uphill skinning in mild weather. The insulation cannot be removed, so the jacket runs warm on the ascent even with the vents open. It is not designed for technical mountaineering or climbing.
How warm and how weatherproof is the Powchaser 2.0 ski jacket?
The Helly Hansen Powchaser 2.0 Jacket uses 60 g PrimaLoft Black Eco insulation, which gives light-to-moderate warmth. On very cold days, wear a warm midlayer underneath. The HELLY TECH Performance membrane keeps out snow and wind, every seam is sealed, and a PFC-free DWR finish makes water bead off the surface. When you work hard, the vent zips release excess heat.
Which size of the Powchaser 2.0 Jacket should I choose?
The Powchaser 2.0 ski jacket has articulated sleeves and a 2-way mechanical stretch shell, so you can move freely when you pole, carve or climb. Adjustable cuffs, an adjustable hem and a drawstring inside the hood let you fine-tune the fit. Take your body measurements and compare them with the Helly Hansen women's jacket size chart on this product page. If you plan to wear a warm midlayer on cold days, take your measurements over that layer.
How is the Helly Hansen Powchaser 2.0 Jacket constructed?
The Helly Hansen Powchaser 2.0 Jacket is a 2-layer ski jacket. Its outer fabric is 100% polyester with 2-way mechanical stretch, made from e.dye solution-dyed fabric. The HELLY TECH Performance membrane, which Helly Hansen describes as waterproof, breathable and windproof, sits behind this shell fabric. A separate 100% polyester lining covers the inside. Between the shell and the lining is 60 g PrimaLoft Black Eco insulation, also sold as PrimaLoft Ocean bound, with a fibre composition of 70% polyester and 30% viscose. Every seam is sealed against moisture, and the outer fabric carries a PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellency) treatment. YKK zippers are used throughout.
Is the Powchaser 2.0 Jacket suitable for off-piste and ski touring?
Off-piste, the Powchaser 2.0 ski jacket has the details that matter. The adjustable powder skirt seals the waist against snow in deep conditions. A chin guard with soft fleece protects your face when the collar is closed. The hood has an inside drawstring and a neon-coloured brim. A RECCO reflector is built in, so organised rescue teams with RECCO detectors can locate you. Helly Hansen also lists backcountry skiing and ski touring as uses, but the fixed 60 g insulation sets a clear limit. The vent zips and stretch fabric help on the climb, yet on long, sustained ascents in mild weather the jacket will run warm. For touring-focused days, a dedicated shell is the better tool. The Powchaser 2.0 is at its strongest on days spent mostly descending.
What pockets and details does the Powchaser 2.0 ski jacket have?
The Helly Hansen Powchaser 2.0 Jacket has a dedicated ski-pass pocket for lift gates. The chest pocket has a secure zipper closure and a goggle wipe. The hand pockets have a brushed lining, and there is an inner chest pocket plus a LIFE POCKET. Elastic, adjustable cuffs fit over or under gloves, and an external hanging loop keeps the jacket off the floor in the hut.
What is the Powchaser 2.0 Jacket made of, and how do you care for it?
The shell and both linings of the Powchaser 2.0 ski jacket are 100% polyester, and the body insulation is 70% polyester and 30% viscose. Before washing, close all zippers and hook-and-loop fastenings. Do not soak the jacket, and do not iron over the printed logo. The DWR finish needs heat to stay effective, so tumble dry the jacket after washing to reactivate the water-repellent treatment. Take it out of the dryer promptly.
How sustainable is the Helly Hansen Powchaser 2.0 Jacket?
The Helly Hansen Powchaser 2.0 Jacket is a bluesign product. The shell is e.dye solution-dyed fabric, the insulation is PrimaLoft Black Eco and PrimaLoft Ocean bound, and the jacket includes Oceanbound recycled materials. The water-repellent finish is PFC-free.
