More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Insulated body, sleeves and hood with PrimaLoft®
- Longer cut with drop tail covers you on the chairlift
- Powder skirt, RECCO® and helmet-compatible hood
- Insulated: runs warm on long skinning ascents
- 1000 g stated weight, heavy to carry in a pack
- Relaxed, longer cut: not a slim piste or race fit
The Helly Hansen Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket is a lightly insulated women's freeride ski jacket with a 2-layer HELLY TECH® Performance shell that is waterproof, windproof and breathable. What sets it apart is the combination of PrimaLoft® insulation in the body, sleeves and hood with a relaxed, longer cut, a drop tail, an asymmetric pocket design and neon detailing.
Who is the Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket for?
The Helly Hansen Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket is for women who ski freeride, off-piste and in the resort and want one insulated jacket with a powder skirt, RECCO® and a helmet-compatible hood. It is not the right choice if you want a slim piste or race cut, a pure shell to combine with your own insulation layers, or a light jacket for long skinning ascents.
How waterproof and warm is the Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket?
The women's Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket combines a 2-layer HELLY TECH® Performance membrane, fully sealed seams and a PFC-free DWR finish, so snow and wet weather are kept out at both the fabric and the seams. Warmth comes from PrimaLoft® insulation, with 60 g PrimaLoft® Ocean Bound stated by Helly Hansen. This is light insulation for cold days on the mountain, not a jacket built for extreme or expedition cold. Ventilation zippers let you release heat when you work harder.
Which size of the Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket should I choose?
The Helly Hansen Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket has a relaxed fit with a longer length and a drop tail for more coverage when you sit on the chairlift. Articulated sleeves, no shoulder seams and 2-way mechanical stretch fabric add freedom of movement. The collar has its own zipper for comfort around your neck over a balaclava or other layers, and the hood fits over a helmet. Compare your body measurements with the women's jacket size chart on this product page. If you prefer a close, fitted look, this relaxed cut will not give you that in any size.
How is the Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket constructed?
The Helly Hansen Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket uses a 2-layer construction: an outer fabric with a HELLY TECH® Performance membrane, combined with a separate 100% polyester lining on the inside. The shell fabric is 100% polyester with 2-way mechanical stretch, and the upper part is made of 100% recycled polyester. Every seam is sealed, and the outer face carries a PFC-free DWR treatment that makes water bead off the surface. Between shell and lining, PrimaLoft® insulation fills the body, the sleeves and the hood. Helly Hansen names PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco and PrimaLoft® Ocean Bound for this ski jacket, with 60 g PrimaLoft® Ocean Bound stated. The stated weight of the jacket is 1000 g.
How does the Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket perform off-piste and on ski tours?
Off-piste and in the backcountry, the women's Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket brings the details that matter in deep snow: an adjustable powder skirt, adjustable cuffs and bottom hem, elastic cuffs, a high collar with a soft fleece chin guard and a protective hood with internal drawstring adjustment that fits over a helmet. RECCO® and a LIFE POCKET™ are built in. The chest pocket has a secure zipper and a goggle wipe, and the hand pockets have a brushed lining. You can take this jacket ski touring or snowshoeing, but the insulated body, sleeves and hood make it warmer than an uninsulated touring shell on the way up, even with the ventilation zippers open. At 1000 g it is also heavy to carry in a pack. For long, high-output ascents in mild conditions, a dedicated touring shell is the better tool.
Can you wear the Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket for resort skiing?
The Helly Hansen Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket works well on resort days too. A ski pass pocket, an inner chest pocket and chest and hand pockets with YKK® zippers keep essentials organised, and the longer length with drop tail covers your lower back when you sit on the chairlift. The YKK® 2-way main zipper can be opened from the bottom as well as the top. This ski jacket is not designed for climbing or technical mountaineering: the longer, relaxed insulated cut is not made for harness work and climbing movement.
What is the Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket made of, and how do you care for it?
The shell, lining and insulation of the Helly Hansen Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket are all 100% polyester, with 100% recycled polyester in the upper. Before washing, close all zippers and hook-and-loop fasteners. Do not soak the jacket and do not iron on the print. Tumble dry the jacket after washing to reactivate the water-repellent treatment, and take it out of the dryer promptly.
How sustainable is the Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket?
The Helly Hansen Powchaser Asymmetric Ski Jacket is a bluesign® product. It combines a 100% recycled polyester upper and a PFC-free DWR finish with PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco and PrimaLoft® Ocean Bound insulation.
