What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.

Product information
  • 60 g PrimaLoft® Black for cold lift rides
  • Powder skirt connects to compatible ski pants
  • RECCO® advanced rescue system plus LIFE POCKET+™
  • Fixed 60 g fill: not a dedicated touring shell
  • Relaxed, longer cut; not a slim piste or race fit
  • 60 g fill needs a warm midlayer on very cold days

The Helly Hansen Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket is a women's insulated ski jacket for freeride, off-piste and resort skiing. It is built from 2-layer HELLY TECH® Professional fabric with 60 g PrimaLoft® Black insulation, fully sealed seams and a DWR treatment. What sets it apart is its freeride equipment: a jacket-to-pant compatible powder skirt, a high collar, a goggle shammy, a neon colour brim for visibility in deep powder and the RECCO® advanced rescue system, all in a longer, relaxed cut with a utilitarian military look.

Who is the Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket for?

The Helly Hansen Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket is for women who ski big-mountain freeride and off-piste lines and also spend full days in the resort, including cold lift rides. It suits skiers who want freedom of movement and a longer silhouette. It is not for skiers who want a slim, close-fitting piste or race cut. It is also not meant for alpine climbing or mountaineering, as it has no harness- or climbing-specific features.

How warm and protective is the Powderqueen 3.0 ski jacket?

The Powderqueen 3.0 ski jacket is insulated with 60 g PrimaLoft® Black synthetic fill. That is light-to-moderate insulation, not expedition warmth: on very cold days, wear a warm midlayer underneath rather than only a base layer. Weather protection comes from the waterproof, windproof HELLY TECH® Professional membrane, fully sealed seams and a DWR treatment on the outer fabric. Underarm ventilation zippers let heat out when you work harder.

Which size of the Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket should I choose?

The Helly Hansen Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket has a longer, relaxed freeride fit with articulated sleeves for mobility. It comes in sizes XS to XL. Take your body measurements and compare them with the Helly Hansen women's jacket size chart on this product page. The insulation is fixed, so you adjust warmth with the underarm zips and the layers you wear underneath.

How is the Helly Hansen Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket constructed?

The Helly Hansen Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket uses a 2-layer construction with HELLY TECH® Professional fabric as its waterproof, windproof and breathable barrier. The outer fabric is a melange ripstop polyester, and a separate 100% polyester lining sits on the inside. Between them, the body is insulated with 60 g PrimaLoft® Black, a 100% polyester synthetic fill. Every seam of the jacket is sealed, so water cannot enter through the stitching, and a Durable Water Repellency (DWR) treatment makes the outer fabric shed snow and rain before it soaks in. The result is an insulated ski jacket in which membrane, sealed seams and fill work as one system rather than as separate layers you add yourself.

Is the Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket good for freeride and off-piste skiing?

The Helly Hansen Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket is designed around freeride days on big mountains. The powder skirt is jacket-to-pant compatible, so it connects to compatible ski pants and helps keep snow out when you ski deep powder. The high collar adds warmth on cold lift rides and protection in deep snow. A goggle shammy lets you clean your lenses on the mountain, and the neon colour brim improves visibility in deep powder. The RECCO® advanced rescue system and LIFE POCKET +™ are built in. For resort days, there is a ski pass pocket, and the 2-way front zipper and articulated sleeves add mobility on the lift and on the slope.

Can you use the Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket for ski touring?

The Powderqueen 3.0 women's ski jacket works for backcountry outings with short climbs, and the underarm ventilation zippers help release heat on the way up. It is not a dedicated touring shell. The 60 g PrimaLoft® Black insulation is built in and cannot be removed, and the cut is long and relaxed. For long, sustained uphill skinning in mild conditions, a lighter, uninsulated shell is the better tool. On the descent and on cold lift rides, the fixed insulation is exactly where this jacket is at home.

What is the Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket made of and how do you wash it?

The shell, the lining and the body insulation of the Helly Hansen Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket are all 100% polyester. Before washing, close all zippers and hook-and-loop fastenings, and wash the jacket with similar colours. Do not use fabric softener, and do not iron on the print. Tumble dry the jacket after washing: the heat reactivates the DWR treatment, so water keeps beading on the outer fabric. Remove the jacket from the dryer promptly once the cycle ends.

Is the Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket a sustainable choice?

The Helly Hansen Powderqueen 3.0 Jacket is a bluesign® product.
