What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 100 g PrimaLoft BLACK Eco with baffled interior
  • Underarm zips and mesh vents to release heat
  • RECCO, powder skirt and thumbhole cuffs
  • Fitted cut: no room for a thick fleece or down
  • Fixed 100 g insulation runs warm on ascents
  • 2-layer insulated build, not an alpine hardshell

The Helly Hansen Alphelia Ski Jacket is an insulated women's ski jacket for resort and piste skiing, with 100 g PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco insulation inside a fully seam-sealed 2-layer HELLY TECH® shell. It combines built-in warmth with a fitted, feminine cut in 4-way stretch fabric, so it stays close to the body without restricting movement.

Who is the Helly Hansen Alphelia Ski Jacket for?

The Helly Hansen Alphelia Ski Jacket suits women who spend full days on the piste and want one warm, waterproof and windproof layer instead of a shell plus a thick midlayer. Helly Hansen lists it for resort skiing, alpine racing and off-piste skiing. A RECCO® transponder and an adjustable powder skirt cover days beside the groomed runs. It is not built for ski touring or skinning uphill, because the insulation and lined build run warm on long ascents. It is also the wrong choice for mild spring skiing, technical mountaineering, or anyone who wants a relaxed, roomy freeride silhouette.

How warm and weatherproof is the Alphelia Ski Jacket?

The Alphelia Ski Jacket gets its warmth from 100 g PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco synthetic insulation, combined with a soft baffle construction on the interior. The 2-layer HELLY TECH® membrane is waterproof, breathable and windproof. Every seam is sealed, and the 85% polyamide, 15% elastane outer fabric has a DWR treatment. When you work hard, you release heat through mesh ventilation and underarm zips. Those vents are the only way to dump heat, because the insulation is fixed.

Which size should I choose in the Alphelia Ski Jacket?

The Helly Hansen Alphelia Ski Jacket has a sleek, fitted cut. 4-way stretch fabric and articulated sleeves give freedom of movement, but the built-in insulation leaves limited room underneath. Plan on a base layer or a thin midlayer, not a thick fleece or down jacket. Measure yourself and compare the result with the size chart on this product page before you order.

How is the Helly Hansen Alphelia Ski Jacket constructed?

The Helly Hansen Alphelia Ski Jacket uses a 2-layer construction. The outer layer is a 4-way stretch fabric of 85% polyamide and 15% elastane, combined with a HELLY TECH® membrane that is waterproof, breathable and windproof. All seams are fully sealed, and the outer fabric carries a Durable Water Repellency (DWR) treatment. Inside the shell sits 100 g PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco synthetic insulation, held in a soft baffle construction on the jacket interior that adds warmth. Polyester and polyamide linings make the ski jacket comfortable over a base layer. Mesh ventilation and underarm ventilation zips let you release heat when the effort goes up. YKK AquaGuard® zips close the openings.

What does the Alphelia Ski Jacket do on the piste and off-piste?

On the piste, the Helly Hansen Alphelia Ski Jacket is set up for long days of lifts and runs. A high protective collar, a full inner front placket and a detachable hood with drawcord adjustment keep wind out on chairlifts. Elastic cuffs with thumbholes sit under your gloves, adjustable cuffs close over them, and a hem drawcord and tail drop seal the lower edge. The adjustable stretch powder skirt and the RECCO® transponder make the jacket usable for off-piste runs near the resort. Storage includes a goggle pocket, a ski pass pocket, a zipped chest pocket, zipped hand pockets with brushed lining, a zipped inner chest pocket, an inside stash pocket and the LIFE POCKET™.

The Alphelia Ski Jacket stops where sustained climbing starts. On ski tours and long skinning ascents, 100 g of fixed insulation and a lined 2-layer build run warm, even with the vents open. For high-alpine routes or mountaineering, a dedicated 3-layer hardshell is the better tool. On mild spring days this insulated ski jacket will feel too warm for most skiers.

What is the Alphelia Ski Jacket made of, and how do I wash it?

The shell of the Helly Hansen Alphelia Ski Jacket is 85% polyamide and 15% elastane; the elastane provides the 4-way stretch. The linings are 100% polyester and 100% polyamide, and the insulation is 100% polyester. Close all zips, turn the jacket inside out and use a washing agent made for technical garments. Do not soak the jacket and do not use fabric softener. Tumble dry it inside out with dryer balls until it is completely dry.

Is the Alphelia Ski Jacket a sustainable choice?

The Helly Hansen Alphelia Ski Jacket is a bluesign® product, and its insulation is PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco.
