More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Helly Hansen Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants are women's plus-size insulated ski pants for resort and on-piste skiing, sold in sizes 1X, 2X and 3X. They combine HELLY TECH® Protection waterproof/breathable technology and full seam sealing with a light 60 g polyester insulation. They are sized on Helly Hansen's dedicated women's plus-size pants chart.
Who are the Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants for?
The Helly Hansen Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants are for women who need plus sizes and spend their ski days on groomed runs and around the resort. Helly Hansen also lists off-piste use, but the piste is where these pants belong. They are not the right choice for ski touring or other uphill skiing, because they are insulated and have no ventilation zips. They are not built for technical mountaineering or climbing either.
How warm and waterproof are the Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants?
These women's plus-size ski pants use 60 g polyester insulation. That is a light fill that suits active days on the piste. On very cold days, the warmth comes mostly from the base layer you wear underneath. HELLY TECH® Protection is a waterproof/breathable technology, and full seam sealing stops water getting in through the stitching. The outer has a water repellent treatment that you reactivate by tumble drying.
Which size of the Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants should I choose?
The Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants come in 1X, 2X and 3X. Check your measurements against the size chart on this product page before you order. Articulated knees give you room to bend. Belt loops let you fine-tune the waist with a belt. The boot gaiters with gripper are designed to go over your ski boots. On cold days, plan room for a warm base layer underneath.
How are the Helly Hansen Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants constructed?
The Helly Hansen Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants are built around HELLY TECH® Protection, Helly Hansen's waterproof/breathable technology. Every seam is sealed, so water has no route in through the needle holes of the stitching. The insulation is 60 g of 100% polyester, and it sits behind a 100% polyester lining. YKK® zippers are used throughout. The construction is simple: a protective waterproof/breathable layer, a light layer of synthetic insulation and a smooth lining against your base layer.
How do the Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants perform on the piste and off-piste?
On the piste, the Helly Hansen Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants do what a resort pant needs to do. Articulated knees follow the bend of your legs as you turn. The bottom leg is reinforced, and the boot gaiters with gripper close around your ski boots to keep snow out. Two hand pockets with zip closures keep small items secure on the lift. Helly Hansen also lists off-piste use. The pants are waist-height with belt loops, though, and have no bib or braces, so in deep snow your back is less protected than in a bib pant.
Where do the Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants reach their limits?
The Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants are insulated piste pants, not touring or mountaineering pants. With no ventilation zips, they can run warm when you work hard, such as when skinning uphill, or on mild spring days. The 60 g insulation is light. If you stand still for long periods in deep cold, add a warm base layer. The only pockets are the two zippered hand pockets. There are no thigh or cargo pockets for extra storage.
What are the Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants made of, and how do you care for them?
The lining and the insulation of the Helly Hansen Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants are both 100% polyester. Before washing, close all zippers and any hook-and-loop fastenings, and turn the pants inside out. Wash dark colours separately and leave out fabric softener. After washing, tumble dry the pants to reactivate the water repellent treatment. That step helps water bead and roll off the outer fabric rather than soaking in. The pants come in White (001) and Black (990).
Are the Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants a bluesign® product?
Yes. The Helly Hansen Legendary Insulated Plus Ski Pants carry the bluesign® product label.
