More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Lightweight, compressible LIFALOFT™ insulation
- PFC-free DWR and bluesign® main material
- Wear alone on cool days or as a layer when cold
- DWR only: water-repellent, not waterproof
- No powder skirt or ski-pass pocket
- Cold days: wear it under a shell, not alone
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket is a lightweight, compressible women's insulated jacket. It is filled with LIFALOFT™ synthetic insulation and finished with a PFC-free water-repellent treatment. Helly Hansen classes it as a midlayer for ski touring, backcountry days and winter hiking: wear it alone on cool days, or under a shell on cold days.
Who is the LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket for?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket suits women who want one warm layer for active days on the skin track, on a winter hike or at camp. It is not a down jacket, because the fill is synthetic. It is also not a piste jacket. There is no powder skirt and no ski-pass pocket, and storage is two zippered hand pockets. For lift-served skiing in cold weather, wear it under a ski shell rather than on its own.
How warm and weather-resistant is the LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket?
The women's LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket combines LIFALOFT™ synthetic insulation (70% polypropylene, 30% polyester) with a 100% polyamide shell. Helly Hansen describes the jacket as warm, windproof and water-resistant. Water protection comes from a PFC-free DWR treatment on the shell fabric, not from a waterproof membrane. That makes the jacket water-repellent, not waterproof. In rain, sleet or wet snow, wear a waterproof shell over it.
Which size should I choose for the LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket has a regular fit, designed to give freedom of movement during intense activities. Choose your size with the women's size chart on this product page. Because you will often wear the jacket under a shell, check the fit together with the shell you plan to wear over it. The insulator should sit under that shell without bunching at the shoulders or cuffs. On cool days you can wear it on its own, over a base layer.
How is the Helly Hansen LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket built?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket uses a simple two-part construction: a 100% polyamide shell fabric over a layer of LIFALOFT™ synthetic insulation. The insulation is a blend of 70% polypropylene and 30% polyester. Helly Hansen describes LIFALOFT™ as lightweight and highly compressible, built to provide more warmth with less weight. The outside of the shell carries a PFC-free Durable Water Repellency (DWR) treatment. A full inner placket runs behind the front closure. Elastic cuffs and an adjustable drawcord at the hem let you close the jacket at the wrists and waist.
Is the LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket suitable for ski touring?
Ski touring and backcountry skiing are among the uses Helly Hansen lists for the women's LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket. The regular cut is designed for freedom of movement during intense activities. Because the insulation is lightweight and compressible, the insulated jacket packs into a touring pack when you are not wearing it. On a cool day, you can wear the jacket as your outer layer. On a cold day, it belongs under a shell. The DWR-treated polyamide shell is water-repellent, so the insulated jacket is not an outer layer for sustained snowfall or rain. It also has no ski-specific details such as a powder skirt or a ski-pass pocket.
Can I wear the LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket for hiking, camping and everyday winter use?
Yes. Helly Hansen also lists hiking, camping and general winter use for the LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket. On cool, dry days, the Helly Hansen insulated jacket works as a standalone jacket, with two zippered hand pockets with brushed lining. An internal hanging loop lets you hang it up at the hut or at home. Resort skiers can wear it as the insulating layer under a ski shell. On cold days, as the only layer, it is lighter than a dedicated insulated ski jacket.
What is the LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket made of, and how should I care for it?
The shell of the Helly Hansen LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket is 100% polyamide. The LIFALOFT™ insulation is 70% polypropylene and 30% polyester. Close all zippers before washing and wash dark colours separately. Do not use fabric softener. If you use a dryer, remove the insulated jacket promptly once the cycle ends. Do not iron over the raised logo or any print.
How sustainable is the LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket?
The Helly Hansen LIFALOFT™ Insulator Jacket uses a bluesign® main material. Its water-repellent finish is a PFC-free DWR treatment, so the shell's water repellency does not rely on PFCs.
