More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 40 g PrimaLoft Black Eco insulation, fully seam sealed
- Back thigh vent zips to dump heat on the climb
- Snow gaiters plus boot gaiters with gripper
- 40 g insulation: thin for long lift rides in deep cold
- Insulated: runs warmer than a shell on long climbs
- Waist-height pant, no bib for deep-snow coverage
The Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants are insulated 2-layer women's ski pants made for skiing deep powder. They pair a HELLY TECH® Performance waterproof construction with 40 g PrimaLoft® Black Eco insulation, 2-way mechanical stretch, fully sealed seams, back thigh vents and a RECCO® reflector, all in one pant for resort and off-piste days.
Who are the Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants for?
The Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants suit women who ski the resort and head off-piste when fresh snow falls. They also work for backcountry days, occasional ski touring and snowshoeing. They are not the right choice for long chairlift days in deep cold over only a thin base layer, or for technical mountaineering and climbing. If you want a bib or high-back trouser for deep snow, choose another model. This is a waist-height pant.
How warm and waterproof are the Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants?
The Powderqueen women's ski pants carry 40 g PrimaLoft® Black Eco, a light insulation that keeps you warm while you are moving. On very cold days, the warmth of your legs depends on what you wear underneath. Weather protection comes from the HELLY TECH® Performance 2-layer construction with fully sealed seams, a DWR treatment and YKK AquaGuard® zippers. Back thigh ventilation zippers release heat when you work hard. They are the only vents.
Which size of the Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants should I choose?
The Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants use Helly Hansen alpha sizing. Compare your measurements with the women's pants size chart on this product page. The pant sits at the waist, closes with a front zip fly and has belt loops. Stretch fabric, articulated knees and a crotch gusset give freedom of movement. Snow gaiters and boot gaiters with gripper close the leg opening around your ski boots.
What technology is inside the Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants?
The Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants are built as a 2-layer construction. The outer fabric is a 2-way mechanical stretch polyester, combined with a HELLY TECH® Performance waterproof membrane. Because the stretch comes from the fabric itself, the pant gives with your movement when you crouch, turn or climb into a lift. Inside sits 40 g PrimaLoft® Black Eco insulation in 100% polyester. Every seam is sealed, so water cannot work its way in through the stitch holes. A DWR treatment makes snow and water bead on the surface instead of soaking into the outer fabric, and the zippers are YKK AquaGuard® to keep wet snow out at the openings.
How do the Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants handle deep powder and off-piste skiing?
Deep snow is what the Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants are made for. Snow gaiters at the bottom of the leg pull over your ski boots, and boot gaiters with gripper hold them in place when you sink in up to your knees. Reinforcement fabric on the hem protects the part of the leg that takes the most wear. A RECCO® reflector is built in: it is a passive reflector that organised rescue teams can locate with a RECCO® detector. It does not replace an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe off-piste. One trade-off for powder days: the Powderqueen is a waist-height pant with belt loops, not a bib, so it gives no extra torso coverage when you fall in deep snow. Storage is in hand pockets and a thigh pocket.
Can you use the Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants for ski touring?
The Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants are listed for ski touring and snowshoeing, and the back thigh ventilation zippers let you dump heat on the way up. Articulated knees and a crotch gusset keep your stride free on the skin track. Still, these are insulated 2-layer ski pants. On long, high-output ascents in mild or spring conditions they run warmer than an uninsulated touring shell, and venting is limited to the back thigh zips. For the occasional tour from the resort they work well; for regular big touring days a shell pant is the better tool. The Powderqueen is also not designed for technical mountaineering or climbing, as it has no harness- or crampon-specific features.
What are the Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants made of, and how do you care for them?
Both the shell and the insulation of the Helly Hansen Powderqueen Ski Pants are 100% polyester. Before washing, close all zippers and hook-and-loop fastenings, and wash the pants separately. Do not soak them, do not use fabric softener and do not iron over the printed logo. Tumble dry the pants after washing: the heat reactivates the water-repellent treatment, so the surface keeps beading off snow and rain. Take them out of the dryer promptly once the cycle ends.
