What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Norrøna femund pureUll Long Sleeve is a men's merino base layer knitted from 165 g/m2 pureUll wool in a single jersey, with a fibre diameter of 18.5 micron for next-to-skin wear. It is built as a year-round layer: worn under a ski or touring shell in winter, and as a plain long-sleeve shirt the rest of the year. The detail that sets it apart is the S+Z twisted yarn, which keeps the knit in shape through repeated wear and washing.

Who is the femund pureUll Long Sleeve for?

This is the base layer for someone who wants one mid-weight merino long sleeve that covers both jobs: skin layer under ski kit, and everyday shirt with jeans. The plain design, with printed logotypes on the front, carries off the mountain. It is not an outer layer. The Norrøna femund pureUll Long Sleeve is an unlined knit with no membrane and no wind or water protection, so it needs an insulating and a shell layer in winter conditions.

How warm is the 165 g/m2 merino knit?

At 165 g/m2 this is a mid-weight knit: enough on its own for mild days and for travel, and a solid skin layer under a shell when it is cold. Mid-weight wool also means it holds more moisture and dries more slowly than a lightweight synthetic base layer, which matters on high-output touring days. The fabric carries UPF 50+ UV protection for long days above the treeline.

Which size should you choose?

The Norrøna femund pureUll Long Sleeve has a regular fit with articulated sleeves, so it follows the body without clinging and moves freely with a pole plant. Check the size chart on this page against your chest and sleeve measurements before ordering. The shirt is carried in M, L and XL only.

How is the Norrøna femund pureUll Long Sleeve built?

The Norrøna femund pureUll Long Sleeve is a single jersey knit in pureUll 100% merino wool at 165 g/m2. The fibre measures 18.5 micron, the range that sits softly against bare skin rather than prickling at the collar and wrists. The yarn is S+Z twisted, a construction that balances the twist direction and keeps the knit from skewing or bagging out over a season of wear and washing. Sleeves are articulated so the shoulder and elbow stay covered when you reach up. Small practical details complete the base layer: an inside hang loop for drying, and printed logotypes on the front instead of stitched labels.

Does the femund pureUll Long Sleeve work for ski touring and resort days?

As a skin layer it works under any ski or touring shell, and it does the same job on a hike or a travel day. Where it stops is clear: there is no membrane, no DWR finish and no wind protection, so everything above the skin layer has to come from the garments you put over it. And at 165 g/m2 this is a mid-weight wool, warmer and slower to dry than a thin synthetic base layer — on a hard skinning ascent with a lot of sweat, a lighter layer clears moisture faster. For resort skiing, sidecountry laps and cold-weather everyday wear, the mid weight is the point.

What is the femund pureUll Long Sleeve made of, and how do you wash it?

The main fabric is 100% merino wool, with no synthetic content. That is good news for feel, odour and natural temperature regulation, and it does set the rules for laundry day: wash on a wool programme at 40°C, do not bleach, do not tumble dry, do not dry clean, and iron at 110°C maximum. If a dedicated wool programme and air-drying are not realistic for your household, choose a synthetic base layer instead. The manufacturer describes the knit as highly durable for its type, which is a claim relative to merino knits rather than to synthetics; treating it gently is part of making it last.

How responsibly is the pureUll wool made?

The pureUll wool of the Norrøna femund pureUll Long Sleeve carries the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certification, and the style is listed as OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified. The garment is knitted and sewn in Europe, with Lithuania as country of origin, which keeps the supply chain short between yarn and finished shirt. The fabric is a single, all-natural material, with no blended synthetic fibres.
