More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 125 g down (size L) in body and upper arms
- PFAS-free GORE-TEX ePE shell, taped seams
- Drop hood fits a freeride helmet, one-hand
- Fixed down: narrow temperature window
- Breathability 2/6: not for uphill touring
- Only offered in M, L and XL
The Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex down800 Jacket is a men's insulated ski and snowboard jacket for cold, lift-accessed freeride days: a waterproof GORE-TEX ePE shell with taped seams, filled with 125 g of down (size L) in the body and upper arms. From the elbows down the fill switches to synthetic insulation, so the sleeves keep working where they get wet and compressed. It is built to replace a shell plus a separate insulating layer, not to be worn over one.
Who is this jacket for?
This is a jacket for freeriders and snowboarders who ride cold powder days from the lift, with short sidecountry and backcountry approaches, and who want one warm, waterproof garment instead of two. It also works for resort skiing on cold days and for standing still in winter. If your days are uphill ski touring, mild spring laps, or technical climbing, look elsewhere: the down is sewn in and cannot be shed, and a powder skirt, hand gaiters and a helmet-sized ski hood get in the way on a climb.
How warm and how weatherproof is the lofoten Gore-Tex down800 Jacket?
Warmth comes from 125 g of Responsible Down Standard certified down (size L) in the body and upper arms, backed by synthetic insulation in the forearms, so warmth is deliberately not uniform across the garment. Protection comes from a 70Dx70D GORE-TEX ePE face fabric with taped seams on the waterproof fabric and water-resistant zippers at the front, chest, hand and sleeve pockets. X-open underarm ventilation with water-resistant zippers is the main way to dump heat; this is a protective, insulated jacket rather than an air-permeable one.
Which size should you choose?
The Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex down800 Jacket has a technical, regular cut: it follows the body, with articulated elbows and an asymmetric, longer back that stays put when you bend forward. Check your chest measurement against the size chart on this page. Plan for a base layer and at most a thin midlayer underneath — the jacket carries its own down and is not cut to swallow a thick fleece. It is offered in M, L and XL only.
How is the Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex down800 Jacket built?
Three elements work together in the Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex down800 Jacket. The outside is a 70Dx70D GORE-TEX ePE fabric: an expanded polyethylene membrane that is PFAS free (under 50 ppm), with taped seams on the waterproof fabric so water cannot enter through the stitching. Inside, down sits in the body and upper arms, where loft matters most, while synthetic insulation takes over from the elbows down. The shell hardware follows the same logic: a 2-way water-resistant front zipper, water-resistant zippers on all outer pockets, and a drop hood sized for a freeride helmet with one-hand adjustment and a drainage channel on the brim.
What does this jacket do on a freeride day?
On a cold powder day the lofoten Gore-Tex down800 Jacket is the whole outer system. A zip-off powder skirt with gripper elastic and a snap-seal closure keeps snow out on deep descents, integrated hand gaiters bridge the gap to your gloves, and asymmetric Velcro cuffs close over or under a glove cuff. A high collar with brushed material on the inside sits against the face on a cold chair; the one-hand hem adjustment seals the bottom in wind. Pockets are organised for riding: two vertical chest pockets, two hand-warming pockets, a sleeve pocket, an internal chest pocket, a large inside mesh pocket, a radio and key-card pocket and a goggle and sunglass wipe inside a pocket. Where it stops is uphill output. The brand's own property scores put breathability at 2 out of 6 against waterproofness and windproofness at 6 out of 6, so long climbs will overheat you even with the underarm vents open. It is also not a packable spare layer: a 70Dx70D face fabric with 125 g of down is a durability-first build.
What is it made of and how do you wash it?
The face fabric is a 70Dx70D GORE-TEX ePE construction; the secondary fabric is 82% recycled polyamide with 18% elastane. Wash gently at 40 degrees Celsius with a liquid detergent, with all zippers closed and with similar colours. Do not bleach, do not iron and do not dry clean. Tumble dry lightly, together with tennis balls, so the down regains its loft instead of staying clumped. The jacket is made in Vietnam.
How sustainable is this jacket?
The GORE-TEX ePE membrane is PFAS free (under 50 ppm) and is built around a reduced carbon footprint, combined with carefully selected textiles including recycled ones. The down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard, and the article is bluesign® APPROVED and certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, the Global Recycled Standard and the Recycled Claim Standard 100.
