What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

  • 1,038 g in size L: heavy for uphill touring

  • Relaxed cut, offered only in M, L and XL

The Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket is an uninsulated three-layer waterproof shell for men, built for freeride skiing and snowboarding on lift-served and sidecountry terrain. The dri3 laminate is rated 25,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m²/24h MVTR, the seams are taped and the finish is a PFC-free DWR. Heavier twill at the yoke and the back of the sleeves takes the abrasion where a shell normally wears out first.

Who is the tamok dri3 Jacket for?

This is a jacket for skiers and snowboarders who ride the resort, the sidecountry and storm days in wet, heavy snow and want full weather protection with freeride detailing: a zip-off powderskirt, integrated hand gaiters, a storm hood sized for a freeride helmet and six pockets. At 1,038 g in size L, the Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket is not the shell for long uphill tours or fast-and-light missions, and it carries no insulation, so it is not a standalone jacket for standing around in deep cold.

How waterproof and breathable is the tamok dri3 Jacket?

Both face fabrics are rated 25,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m²/24h MVTR, combined with taped seams on the waterproof fabric. In practice that covers a full day of wet snowfall. To dump heat on a bootpack or a warm spring lap you open the X-open underarm vents and the chest vent, all with water-resistant zippers. Breathability here is published as MVTR rather than RET, so it does not line up one-to-one with RET-rated shells.

Which size should you choose?

The Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket has a relaxed fit with an asymmetric, longer back cut and articulated elbows, so there is room for a fleece or a light insulator underneath without pulling at the shoulders. If you want a trim silhouette, this cut will feel generous. Check the size chart on this page against your chest and sleeve measurements before ordering. Offered in M, L and XL; Cowhide/Port is offered in M and L.

How is the Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket constructed?

The Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket is a three-layer shell: a recycled nylon face fabric, a dri3 hydrophilic PU laminate and a 20d recycled polyester single jersey backer bonded into one piece. The main fabric is a 70d x 160d plainweave at 190 g/m², and a second, tougher 160d x 250d twill at 245 g/m² is placed at the yoke and the back of the sleeves. Both fabrics are rated 25,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m²/24h MVTR, the seams over waterproof fabric are taped, and the exterior carries a PFC-free DWR that sheds the first wetting and will need reproofing as it wears off. The fabric has 4-way stretch, which is what lets a shell of this weight move with you.

How does the tamok dri3 Jacket ride on the piste and in the sidecountry?

This is a freeride shell first. The storm hood is cut for a freeride helmet and adjusts with one hand, the zip-off powderskirt with gripper elastic and snap-seal keeps snow out after a deep-snow crash, and integrated hand gaiters close the gap at the wrist. Pocketing is built for a lift day: two storm-flapped lower front pockets, a vertical chest pocket, a radio and key-card pocket, an internal stretch pocket and inside mesh pockets, plus a goggle and sunglass wipe. Short approaches and sidecountry hikes are well within the brief of the Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket. Long uphill days are not: 1,038 g in size L and a relaxed cut with a powderskirt add bulk where a touring shell saves it, and under a climbing harness or a loaded hipbelt the same bulk is noticeable.

Which materials are used and how do you wash the jacket?

The face of the main fabric is 100% recycled polyamide, the backer 100% recycled polyester, and the second fabric is a recycled polyamide blend with 18% elastane for stretch in the reinforced panels. The jacket is made in Vietnam. Wash it gently at 40°C with a liquid detergent and all zippers closed, with similar colours; no bleach, no ironing, no dry cleaning. Tumble dry lightly, which also helps revive the DWR. Washing a shell regularly is not optional: dirt in the face fabric is what makes a membrane feel clammy.

What makes the tamok dri3 Jacket more sustainable?

The main face fabric of the Norrøna tamok dri3 Jacket is 100% recycled nylon and the backer is 20d recycled polyester. The water repellent finish is PFC-free. The fabric is bluesign approved, and the article carries Global Recycled Standard (GRS, Textile Exchange) and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification.
