What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket is a men's pile fleece jacket for freeride and resort skiing, built from a 305 g/m2 pebbled pile fleece in 100% recycled polyester. It is worn as a warm mid layer under a ski shell, or on its own as a jacket in dry cold. The weight is the point: 552 g in size L, with 22d recycled nylon ripstop trim, makes this a substantial winter fleece rather than a light active layer.

Who is the tamok warm3 Jacket for?

The Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket suits resort and sidecountry skiers and snowboarders who want one warm, durable fleece for cold lift days under a shell and for wearing straight off the hill. It also works as a hut, camp or everyday winter layer. It is not the fleece for high-output skinning or uphill laps, where 305 g/m2 pile runs too warm, and it is not an outer layer in rain or wet snow.

How warm is the tamok warm3 Jacket, and does it keep weather out?

The warmth comes from the fabric itself: a 305 g/m2 pebbled pile fleece with no separate fill and no lining. There is no membrane in this jacket, so pile slows wind rather than blocking it, and precipitation calls for a shell over the top. A high collar with brushed chin protection, snap-adjustable cuffs and a contoured, piped hem close off the drafts a fleece can close.

Which size should you choose for the tamok warm3 Jacket?

The cut is relaxed, with room across the chest and shoulders for a baselayer and a midweight top underneath. Articulated sleeves and a longer, asymmetric back keep coverage when you bend over. The Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket is stocked in M, L and XL only. Compare your chest measurement with the size chart on this page, and allow extra volume if you plan to wear it under a close-fitting shell.

What is warm3 and how is the Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket built?

warm3 is Norrøna's own name for the heaviest of its fleece fabrics, and in the tamok warm3 Jacket it is a pebbled pile fleece of 100% recycled polyester at 305 g/m2, woven by Kingwhale in Taiwan. The pile structure holds air between the loops, which is where the warmth comes from: there is no separate fill, no lining and no membrane in the construction. Trim and reinforcement areas use a 22d recycled full dull nylon ripstop at 49 g/m2, a much finer fabric that adds structure without adding bulk. A full-length front zip, a high collar with soft brushed chin protection, articulated sleeves, snap-adjusted cuffs and a contoured, piped hem with a dropped back complete the build. Two zipped hand-warming pockets and one zipped chest pocket keep small items secure.

Is the Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket suitable for ski touring?

No. The tamok line is built around resort and sidecountry skiing and snowboarding, and that is where this fleece belongs: under a shell on cold chairlift days, over a baselayer on a sheltered sidecountry lap, or on its own in the car park and the hut afterwards. For uphill skinning the maths works against it — 552 g in size L and a 305 g/m2 pile overheat quickly on sustained climbing and pack down poorly. It also has no hood, no powder skirt, no underarm vents and no RECCO reflector, and with no membrane and no stated water repellency it needs a shell as soon as rain, wet snow or sustained wind arrive. The relaxed cut plus thick pile takes up real volume, so a slim-cut shell may be tight over it.

What is the Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket made of and how do you wash it?

The main fabric is 100% recycled polyester pile fleece; the reinforcement and trim fabric is recycled nylon ripstop. Both are synthetic, which means the jacket dries quickly and takes repeated washing well. Wash it gently at 40 degrees Celsius with similar colours and all zippers closed, so the zip teeth cannot abrade the pile. Tumble dry on a low setting. Do not bleach, do not iron and do not dry clean. The jacket is made in China.

How sustainable is the Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket?

The face fabric of the Norrøna tamok warm3 Jacket is 100% recycled polyester and carries both bluesign and GRS (Global Recycled Standard, Textile Exchange) certification, meaning the recycled content and the chemical management in production are independently verified. The reinforcement fabric is recycled nylon. The jacket is also certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100.
