What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • warm3 fleece plus Pile fleece torso insulation
  • Three zipped pockets, including a chest pocket
  • High collar and longer asymmetric back hem
  • Sleeveless: no insulation for the arms
  • No membrane or DWR, so not for rain or wind
  • Pile fleece is bulky under a slim-cut shell

The Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Vest is a women's sleeveless fleece vest, built as a warm mid layer for mountaineering and cold-weather days in the mountains. It uses warm3 fleece together with Pile fleece to insulate the torso, with no separate fill, and it also works on its own as an everyday warm layer in town and while travelling. It belongs to trollveggen, Norrøna's line for alpinism and expedition use.

Who is this vest for?

The Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Vest suits a woman who wants a warm, durable fleece vest for mountaineering and cold-weather hiking that doubles as a daily layer, and who accepts that her arms and her weather protection come from a separate jacket. It is not an outer layer for rain, wet snow or sustained wind, because there is no membrane. It is also not meant to be your only insulation in genuinely cold, exposed conditions, and it has no hood.

How warm is the trollveggen warm3 Vest?

Warmth comes from the fabric itself: warm3 fleece combined with Pile fleece, which holds air across chest, back and lower back while staying open to airflow, since no membrane is laminated to it. A high collar closes off the neck, an elasticated hem keeps draughts out, and the asymmetric cut sits longer at the back. Being sleeveless, the vest insulates the torso only; your arms stay as warm as whatever you wear with it.

Which size should you choose?

The trollveggen warm3 Vest has a regular fit and is offered in S, M and L. Compare your chest and waist measurements against the Norrøna women's top size chart on this page before you order. Pile fleece carries some bulk, so if you plan to wear the vest under a slim-cut hardshell, check that the shell has room across the chest.

What is the Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Vest made of?

The Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Vest is built from two fleece fabrics rather than from a shell plus a fill: warm3 fleece as the main fabric and Pile fleece as the second. Pile fleece holds air in its own surface structure, so the insulation is the fabric, and nothing can shift, clump or escape through a seam. Because there is no membrane and no laminate, water vapour moves straight out through the fabric, which is what keeps a fleece like this comfortable when you are working hard uphill. Three zipped pockets sit on the front: two hand-warming pockets and one chest pocket. An embroidered logo artwork sits on the front, and there is a hang loop inside for drying.

Is the trollveggen warm3 Vest suitable for mountaineering and skiing?

Mountaineering is the job the trollveggen warm3 Vest was built for, and trollveggen is Norrøna's alpinism line. Under a shell it adds core warmth on cold approaches, on winter hikes and on summit days; worn on its own in town or while travelling it is simply a warm vest. For skiing it serves as a torso mid layer under a jacket, but it is not a ski-specific garment and it carries no RECCO reflector, so it adds nothing to searchability in avalanche terrain. It is sleeveless, so arm insulation has to come from your jacket or base layer, and no packed volume is claimed for this construction: treat it as a layer you wear, not one you stuff into a small summit pack.

Which materials are used and how do you wash it?

The Norrøna trollveggen warm3 Vest uses warm3 fleece as its main fabric and Pile fleece as its secondary fabric, and it is made in China. Washing is straightforward: a normal cycle at 40 °C with similar colours, no bleach, no fabric softener, no ironing and no dry cleaning. Tumble drying on a low setting is allowed. Close the chest pocket and hand pockets and the front zip before the vest goes into the machine so the sliders cannot catch on the fleece face.

How sustainable is this fleece vest?

The trollveggen warm3 Vest is a bluesign® APPROVED article and is certified to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS, Textile Exchange) and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, with recycled polyester (PET) listed in its certification data. Norrøna has been family-owned since 1929 and builds its collections around durability rather than season-by-season turnover, which is the other half of the sustainability argument for a garment like this.
