What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 10,000 mm HIPE® 3L shell, fully seam sealed
  • 2-way stretch with slim, articulated legs
  • Cordura® hems and anti-slip snow gaiters
  • No ventilation zips: warm at high output
  • Shell only, all warmth comes from your layers
  • Waist pant, no bib coverage above the waist

The Peak Performance Anima HIPE® 3L Shell Pants are women's uninsulated three-layer shell ski pants for full days on the lift, built around a 10,000 mm waterproof HIPE® membrane with fully sealed seams. The fabric has 2-way stretch, and the legs are reinforced with Cordura® at the hem where boot buckles and edges do their damage. There is no insulation at all, so you decide how warm the setup is with what you wear underneath.

Who are the Anima HIPE® 3L Shell Pants for?

These shell pants suit a resort skier who wants a waterproof, seam-sealed outer layer and prefers to build warmth with a base layer and a midlayer rather than buy an insulated pant. They also work for lift-served off-piste and side-country laps. They are less suited to high-output ski touring and skinning: there are no thigh or side ventilation zips of any kind. If you want coverage above the waist, look at a bib instead, because this is a waist pant.

How waterproof and breathable are the Anima HIPE® 3L Shell Pants?

The three-layer laminate pairs a 100% recycled polyester face with a 100% thermoplastic polyurethane HIPE® membrane and a recycled polyester backer, rated at 10,000 mm water column and 10,000 g/m²/24h. Every seam is sealed, which is what keeps chairlift seats and sit-down breaks dry. Those two figures are mid-level for a three-layer shell: fine for snow, spindrift and short showers, less convincing in sustained heavy rain or very wet spring snow.

Which size should you choose in the Anima HIPE® 3L Shell Pants?

The cut is a regular fit with a mid-rise waist and slim, articulated legs, available in XS to XL. The waistband adjusts with velcro tabs and closes with a button-and-hook double closure, so you can dial the fit over a base layer and a thin midlayer. A thick, bulky midlayer will crowd the slim legs. Check the size chart on this page for your measurements before ordering.

How is the three-layer construction of these Peak Performance shell pants built?

The Peak Performance Anima HIPE® 3L Shell Pants use a bonded three-layer laminate: a 100% recycled polyester face fabric, a HIPE® membrane of 100% thermoplastic polyurethane, and a 100% recycled polyester backer. HIPE® is Peak Performance's own membrane. Because the three layers are bonded into one fabric, there is no loose lining to twist or catch, and the backer sits directly against your midlayer. All seams are sealed, so water cannot enter through the stitching. A second shell fabric of 100% polyester is used in the construction, and the bottom leg is reinforced with Cordura®. The laminate has 2-way stretch, which is what lets the slim legs follow a deep turn or a step up.

Are the Anima HIPE® 3L Shell Pants good for resort skiing?

Resort skiing is the job these pants were built for. Snow gaiters with anti-slip elastic seal around ski boots, and loops on the waistband snap into the powder skirt system of compatible Peak Performance ski jackets so snow cannot ride up your back in a fall. Zippered hand pockets keep a pass or a phone secure on the lift. Belt loops and internal suspender loops let you carry the pant the way you prefer. Where they stop: there are no ventilation zips, so on a mild spring afternoon or on a skin track you will run warm, and there are no full-length side zips, which means you put them on before your boots, not after. Reinforcement is limited to the bottom leg, not the seat or knees.

What are the Anima HIPE® 3L Shell Pants made of and how do you wash them?

The main fabric is recycled polyester on both sides of the polyurethane membrane, with a polyester second shell and Cordura® at the hem for abrasion resistance. Machine wash at 40 °C with similar colours, close all zippers first and skip the fabric softener, which clogs the fabric and reduces water repellency. Do not bleach and do not dry clean. Tumble dry on low or line dry in the shade; a tumble cycle or a cool iron after washing reactivates the water-repellent treatment on the face fabric.

What makes these shell pants a more responsible choice?

The face fabric and the backer of the main shell are both 100% recycled polyester, and the pants are made without intentionally added PFAS.

3L
3L
3L refers to a three-layer construction in which the outer fabric, membrane, and a thin backer layer are combined into one unified layer. This design offers excellent protection against wind and water while maintaining high breathability. Because 3L is unlined, it feels light and flexible and functions as a versatile shell that allows your warmth and comfort to be determined by the layers you wear underneath. As a result, 3L provides a well-balanced combination of protection, freedom of movement, and comfort in winter conditions.
