A lined jacket contains a filling of down, wool or synthetic material.
What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Three-layer stretch softshell, 540 g outer layer
- Helmet-compatible hood with laminated brim
- RECCO® reflector and PFC-free water repellency
- No hand pockets: two chest pockets only
- No insulation, warmth comes from your layers
- Only critical seams sealed, not a hardshell
The Peak Performance Ascent Softshell Jacket Women is a three-layer stretch softshell for ski touring, built as an outer layer for uphill travel with a helmet-compatible hood and a RECCO® reflector. It weighs 540 g and laminates a 100% polyurethane membrane between a recycled polyester face and a recycled polyester backer, with critical seams sealed. The point of difference is stretch: both shell constructions contain elastane, so the jacket moves with your stride and pole plant instead of fighting it.
Who is the Ascent Softshell Jacket Women for?
This Peak Performance softshell jacket suits a skier who skins uphill and wants wind protection and breathability more than maximum waterproofing. It is a good choice for ski mountaineering, high alpine days and resort skiing in dry, settled weather. It is not the jacket for sustained rain or hours of wet snowfall, not for cold static days on the lift, and not for deep-snow freeride days where you expect a powder skirt — none is fitted.
How weatherproof is the Ascent Softshell Jacket Women?
The Ascent Softshell Jacket Women uses waterproof panels with critical seams sealed and a PFC-free durable water repellent finish, which handles wind and short snow showers. Wind protection is partial: the construction is partially wind blocked with windproof panels, not a sealed hardshell. There is no insulation, so all warmth comes from what you wear underneath. Venting runs through the fabric and the 2-way YKK front zipper.
Which size should you choose?
The cut is a regular fit, available in S, M, L and XL. Check the Peak Performance size chart on this page against your own chest and hip measurements before you order. Both shell fabrics contain elastane, so the regular cut has mechanical stretch and still clears a base layer and a midlayer underneath.
How is the Ascent Softshell Jacket Women constructed?
The Peak Performance Ascent Softshell Jacket Women is built from a three-layer stretch softshell: a face of 93% recycled polyester with 7% elastane, a 100% polyurethane membrane, and a backer of 100% recycled polyester. Because the three plies are bonded into one fabric, there is no loose lining to shift or cling, and the membrane sits protected between the two faces. A second shell fabric of 52% recycled polyamide, 36% polyamide and 12% elastane adds stretch in the panels where it is used. Critical seams are sealed and the face carries a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment. Total weight is 540 g.
Is the Ascent Softshell Jacket Women suitable for ski touring?
Ski touring is what this Peak Performance jacket was designed around. On the climb the stretch fabric lets you reach and rotate freely, the 2-way reversed coil YKK zipper opens from the hem so you can dump heat without unzipping the collar, and the fleece-lined chin guard stays comfortable when you close it up on a windy ridge. The fixed hood fits over a ski helmet, adjusts with a drawcord and has a laminated brim that keeps spindrift off your goggles; a goggle wiper and an integrated RECCO® Rescue System reflector are both on board. Where it stops is storm duty: with waterproof panels and only the critical seams sealed, long rain or heavy wet snowfall calls for a seam-taped hardshell. Carrying capacity is limited too — there is a zippered chest pocket and a mesh chest pocket for quick access, and no hand pockets, so a pass, phone and skins need a plan.
What is the Ascent Softshell Jacket Women made of and how do you wash it?
The recycled polyester face and backer of the three-layer shell give the jacket its abrasion surface and its next-to-layer feel, while the elastane in both shell fabrics supplies the recovery that keeps the cut from bagging out. Pockets are 96% polyamide with 4% elastane. Machine wash at 40°C with a technical detergent, which keeps the water repellent finish working, and skip fabric softener — it coats the fibres and kills water beading. Close the zippers first, wash with similar colours, then tumble dry low or line dry in the shade, and take the jacket out of the machine promptly.
What makes this jacket a more responsible choice?
Two things are concrete here. The water repellent treatment is PFC-free, and the fibres are partly recycled: a 93% recycled polyester face and 100% recycled polyester backer in the main three-layer shell, plus 52% recycled polyamide in the second shell fabric. The Ascent Softshell Jacket Women is available in Black and Mystic Purple.
