What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 30,000 mm water column, fully seam sealed
  • 35,000 g/m²/24h, 2-way stretch face fabric
  • Hood fits over a bike or climbing helmet
  • No pit zips: heat escapes via the membrane only
  • No insulation; warmth comes from your layers
  • No powder skirt, wrist gaiters or pass pocket

The Peak Performance Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket is a three-layer waterproof shell for men, built for cycling or walking to work in rain and wind. It pairs a 30,000 mm water column with 35,000 g/m²/24h breathability in a 2-way stretch face fabric, so the jacket moves with you over the handlebars instead of fighting you. The fixed hood fits over a bike or climbing helmet and adjusts in height and width with one hand.

Who is this jacket for?

This is for the rider or walker who wants one genuinely waterproof shell for the daily commute in Northern European weather, and who also wants it for hiking, travel and wet outdoor days. The Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket is not a ski jacket: there is no powder skirt, no wrist gaiter and no pass pocket. It carries no insulation either, so on its own it is not a winter jacket.

How waterproof and breathable is the Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket?

The HIPE® ACE polyurethane membrane is rated 30,000 mm water column and 35,000 g/m²/24h moisture vapour transfer, and every seam is fully sealed. The full-length 2-way front zip and all exposed zippers are YKK AquaGuard®, and the hood brim is laminated so it keeps its shape in driving rain. There are no pit zips, so on hard, fast efforts all the heat has to leave through the membrane.

Which size should you choose?

The Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket has a regular fit with a shoulder cut adapted for a riding position and a slightly longer back hem for cover when you lean forward. It is sized to go over a base layer and, in cold weather, a midlayer. Available in M, L, XL and 2XL, with 2XL offered in Salute Blue only. Compare your measurements with the size chart on this page before you order.

What is the three-layer HIPE® ACE construction?

The Peak Performance Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket is built from three bonded layers: a 30Dx35D lightweight plain weave face with 2-way stretch, the HIPE® ACE polyurethane membrane rated 30,000 mm / 35,000 g/m²/24h, and a soft tricot backer. Because the backer is laminated to the membrane, there is no separate lining to cling or twist when you pull the jacket on over a midlayer. Every seam is sealed, the full front closure is a 2-way YKK AquaGuard® zipper, and all exposed zippers use the same AquaGuard® construction.

Is the Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket suitable for cycling?

Cycling is what this shell was shaped around. The shoulder fit is adapted for a riding position, the back hem runs slightly longer, and the fixed hood is built to sit over a bike or climbing helmet with two-way adjustment and a laminated brim. Reflective taping runs along the sleeve hem; the asymmetric cuffs and a hidden flap at the back fold up to expose more reflective taping when the light goes. Zippered hand pockets sit under a flap, with a further zippered front pocket. Where it stops: there is no underarm ventilation, so a long climb at full effort will feel warm, the hand pockets can be covered by a hip belt or a climbing harness, and the lightweight 30Dx35D face fabric is made for low weight and stretch rather than for rock scrambling or a heavily loaded pack riding on the shoulders. The jacket packs down, which makes it easy to carry on days when the rain is only a possibility.

What is the Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket made of, and how do you wash it?

The shell face is 83% recycled polyester with 17% elastane, which is where the 2-way stretch comes from; the membrane is 100% polyurethane and the backer is 100% recycled polyester. Wash it at 30°C with a technical detergent to keep the water-repellent treatment working, close all zippers first, and skip fabric softener, which clogs the membrane. Tumble dry low or line dry in the shade, remove it promptly after washing, and keep it away from bleach, dry cleaning and professional wet cleaning. A cool iron is fine, but not over the print.

How sustainable is this jacket?

The Commuter HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS. Both the face fabric and the backer use recycled polyester: 83% in the face, 100% in the backer.

3L
3L
3L refers to a three-layer construction in which the outer fabric, membrane, and a thin backer layer are combined into one unified layer. This design offers excellent protection against wind and water while maintaining high breathability. Because 3L is unlined, it feels light and flexible and functions as a versatile shell that allows your warmth and comfort to be determined by the layers you wear underneath. As a result, 3L provides a well-balanced combination of protection, freedom of movement, and comfort in winter conditions.
Peak Performance
Peak Performance began in 1986 in Åre, Sweden, where a group of ski enthusiasts decided to create ski clothing that was as stylish as it was functional. The brand is known for minimalist Scandinavian design and technical innovation. What once started as a local project is now a world leader in outdoor clothing, with products that combine sustainability and performance.
