What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

Product information
  • 80/20 duck down, Responsible Down Standard
  • Packable: fits in a daypack as a spare layer
  • Shell and lining 100% recycled polyamide
  • No membrane: not for rain or wet snow
  • Elastic hood, cuffs and hem, no adjusters
  • No powder skirt or ski-shell features

The Peak Performance Down Liner Hood Jacket is a women's packable down jacket designed to work two ways: as a light insulation layer under a ski shell, or as a jacket on its own in cool, dry weather. The fill is 80% duck down and 20% duck feather, certified to the Responsible Down Standard, inside a shell and lining of 100% recycled polyamide. There is no membrane here, which is the point: this is warmth and packability, not weather protection.

Who is the Down Liner Hood Jacket for?

It suits a skier who wants one light down layer that slips under a shell on cold, dry days and doubles as a town and travel jacket. Low- to mid-intensity use is where it belongs: lift days in dry cold, walking, cold mornings, a spare warm layer in the pack. It is not the jacket for rain, wet snow or long damp spells, and it is not a ski shell substitute, since the Peak Performance Down Liner Hood Jacket has no powder skirt and no ski-specific hardware.

How warm is this down jacket?

Warmth comes from loose down loft rather than a thick synthetic slab: an 80/20 duck down and duck feather fill traps air and compresses small when you do not need it. Elastic binding at the hood edge, cuffs and hem keeps that warm air in. Because it is built as a lightweight liner, treat it as a cool-weather layer and pair it with a shell when the temperature or the wind gets serious.

Which size should you choose?

The Peak Performance Down Liner Hood Jacket has a regular fit and runs XS to XL. Check the Peak Performance women's size chart against your chest and sleeve measurements before you order. Worn on its own, the regular cut leaves room for a midlayer or a fleece underneath. If you plan to wear it under a hardshell jacket, make sure that shell has enough volume for a down layer, rather than sizing this jacket up.

How is the Peak Performance Down Liner Hood Jacket constructed?

The build is deliberately simple. A 100% recycled polyamide face fabric and a 100% recycled polyamide lining enclose a fill of 80% duck down and 20% duck feather. Down needs a tightly woven, lightweight fabric to stay put and to keep loft, and that is what the shell and lining do here. Closure and storage are kept minimal too: two zippered hand pockets, a zippered chest pocket, and elastic binding at the hood edge, the cuffs and the hem instead of drawcords or hook-and-loop tabs. The jacket packs down, so it travels in a daypack rather than taking up a hook in the hallway.

Does it work as a ski layer?

Under a shell, yes. The Peak Performance Down Liner Hood Jacket is intended as an insulation layer for cool, dry conditions, which makes it a good match for a hardshell jacket on cold resort days or for standing around at the car park and the lift queue. On its own it covers everyday wear, travel and dry cold outdoors. Where it stops is clear: wet weather, because down loses its loft and most of its insulating value when it soaks through, and high-output days, where a liner this light will be too warm uphill and too thin at the top. The hood carries elastic binding only, so it is not built around a helmet.

What are the materials and how do you wash it?

Shell and lining are both recycled polyamide, a smooth, closely woven synthetic that resists abrasion from pack straps better than a knitted fabric. Down garments ask for more care than a fleece, but the routine is straightforward: machine wash at 40 degrees Celsius on a delicate cycle with a technical detergent, which also looks after the water-repellent finish, and skip fabric softener, which coats the down. Close the zippers first, wash with similar colours and take the jacket out promptly. Drying is the step that decides how good the jacket looks afterwards: tumble dry inside out on low with tennis balls for at least five hours, and pull it out every half hour to shake the down apart by hand so it does not clump.

How sustainable is this jacket?

Three concrete points. The down in the Peak Performance Down Liner Hood Jacket is certified to the Responsible Down Standard. The shell and the lining are both 100% recycled polyamide. And the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS, so the water-repellent treatment is not built on per- and polyfluorinated chemistry.
