What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 85 g/m2 Polartec® Alpha™ Direct vents as you climb
  • Relaxed cut leaves room for a base layer
  • Shell 78% recycled, no added PFAS
  • No membrane: needs a shell in rain or snow
  • Open-knit insulation gives no wind protection
  • 85 g/m2 is too light for standing still in cold

The Peak Performance Freelight AOP Polartec® Alpha™ Hood is a women's insulated midlayer pullover built around 85 g/m2 Polartec® Alpha™ Direct, an open-knit active insulation that keeps air moving while you work. It is made to regulate temperature during high-output efforts in cold or damp weather, not to sit still in. The relaxed cut and seasonal all-over print set it apart from a plain fleece.

Who is this midlayer for?

The Freelight AOP Polartec® Alpha™ Hood suits a woman who moves fast and sweats hard in the cold: uphill skiing, winter hiking, a long approach. It is not the layer for standing at a lift in deep cold, and it is not an outer layer. There is no membrane and no water column, so rain and snowfall call for a shell over the top.

How warm and how breathable is it?

Polartec® Alpha™ Direct at 85 g/m2 is light active insulation: the open-knit structure traps air while letting excess heat and moisture escape, so you can keep it on during the climb instead of stopping to strip a layer. Expect steady regulation while moving rather than static warmth. The open knit also means no wind protection, which is why this Peak Performance midlayer pairs with a shell when the weather turns.

Which size should you choose?

The Freelight AOP Polartec® Alpha™ Hood has a relaxed fit, with room for a base layer underneath and freedom through the shoulders and arms for poling and skinning. Check the size chart on this page for the measurements of your usual size. If you want a trim midlayer that disappears under a close-fitting shell, this relaxed cut is the wrong shape for you. Available in XS, S, M and L.

How does Polartec® Alpha™ Direct insulation work in this hoodie?

Polartec® Alpha™ Direct is an open-knit fleece insulation: instead of a dense batting sealed between fabrics, the fibres sit in a lofted knit that is exposed on the inside of the garment. In the Peak Performance Freelight AOP Polartec® Alpha™ Hood it is used at 85 g/m2 and carries the warmth on its own, with no separate lining in the construction. Air passes straight through the knit, so heat produced on a climb vents instead of building up against your base layer. Narrow flatlock covering seams keep the inside surface flat, which matters on a layer worn directly over skin-contact fabric.

Is this midlayer suitable for ski touring?

Yes, that is its clearest use. On a skin track the Freelight AOP Polartec® Alpha™ Hood goes over a base layer and under a shell, and in dry, calm conditions it can be worn on its own while you climb. The fixed hood with elastic binding adds cover under a helmet or hat, the zippered chest pocket keeps a phone or skins clip secure, and reflective zip pullers help in low light. Where it stops is clear: no membrane, no taped seams and an open-knit insulation with no claimed wind resistance, so exposed ridges, wind and precipitation need a shell. On resort days it works as the warm layer under a ski jacket, but it will not keep you comfortable standing in a lift queue in deep cold.

What is it made of and how do you wash it?

The shell of this Peak Performance midlayer is 78% recycled polyester and 22% polyester, with 100% polyester pocket bags. Polyester dries quickly and handles repeated washing, which suits a layer that absorbs sweat on every outing. Machine wash at 40°C, inside out, with similar colours and the zippers closed; a laundry bag protects the open-knit insulation in the drum. Skip fabric softener, as it coats fibres and reduces the airflow the insulation depends on. Tumble dry low or dry flat in the shade. Do not bleach, do not iron, and do not dry clean or professional wet clean.

What are the sustainability credentials?

The Freelight AOP Polartec® Alpha™ Hood is made without intentionally added PFAS, and the shell fabric contains 78% recycled polyester. It is offered in a single seasonal all-over print, Ray.
