A lined jacket contains a filling of down, wool or synthetic material.
What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

5. Refund
You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.
This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.
Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

- 85 g/m² Polartec® Alpha™ Direct active insulation
- Open knit vents heat and moisture while you climb
- Shell 78% recycled polyester, no added PFAS
- No membrane: needs a shell in rain or wet snow
- Open knit gives little wind protection
- Hood has elastic binding only, no adjustment
The Peak Performance Freelight Polartec® Alpha™ Hood Men is a hooded pullover midlayer built around 85 g/m² Polartec® Alpha™ Direct open-knit insulation. It is made for high-output activity in cold or damp air — ski touring, uphill laps, winter hiking — where you want light warmth that keeps venting while you work. Worn over a base layer and under a shell, it pushes moisture out rather than holding it against you.
Who is this midlayer for?
This is for the skier or hiker who climbs hard and overheats in a conventional fleece. The open-knit Polartec® Alpha™ Direct insulation is deliberately air-permeable, so warmth stays in balance when your pace is high. If you want a layer that keeps you warm while standing still — on chairlifts, at belays, during long breaks — the Freelight Polartec® Alpha™ Hood is not that garment on its own.
How warm is the Freelight Polartec® Alpha™ Hood?
Warmth comes from a single 85 g/m² Polartec® Alpha™ open-knit fleece, which puts it in the light end of insulation. That is enough for moving in the cold and for taking the chill off under a shell, not for static cold. There is no membrane and no stated water column, so in rain, wet snow or sleet you need a shell over it, and in wind the open knit lets air straight through.
Which size should you choose?
Peak Performance cuts this hooded pullover in a relaxed fit, with room over a base layer and a hem and cuffs held by elastic binding. Check the size chart against your chest measurement before ordering. Remember that a relaxed midlayer needs space in the shell you wear over it: if your shell is slim-cut, do not plan on a second thick layer underneath as well. Sizes run S to 2XL, with Wild Rouge offered in M to XL.
What does Polartec® Alpha™ Direct do that a normal fleece does not?
The Peak Performance Freelight Polartec® Alpha™ Hood Men uses Polartec® Alpha™ Direct as exposed insulation rather than as a fill between fabrics. The 85 g/m² open-knit structure holds a layer of warm air against the body while leaving large open channels for vapour and air to pass straight through. That is why it behaves differently from a dense fleece: it warms when you move and sheds heat the moment your output rises, instead of storing sweat and chilling you later. Narrow flatlock covering seams keep the joins flat against the skin, and reflective zip pullers help in low light.
Is the Freelight Polartec® Alpha™ Hood suitable for ski touring?
Ski touring and uphill skinning are exactly what this hooded pullover is built for. On the climb you can wear it alone over a base layer and let the open knit vent; at the top you pull a shell over it and the 85 g/m² insulation does its work under cover. Inside the resort it serves as a midlayer under a ski shell for freeride and piste days. In dry weather it works as a standalone outdoor hoodie. Where it stops is weather: no membrane, no water column and no stated wind protection, so precipitation and exposed ridgelines call for a shell. Storage is limited too — one zippered chest pocket and one woven outside pocket, with no hand-warmer pockets.
What is it made of and how do you care for it?
The body fabric of the Freelight Polartec® Alpha™ Hood is 78% recycled polyester and 22% polyester; the pockets are 100% polyester. Polyester dries fast and takes repeated washing well, which matters for a layer that sits close to the body on sweaty days. Machine wash at 40 °C, inside out, with similar colours and with the zippers closed; a laundry bag protects the open-knit face from snagging. Skip fabric softener, because it coats the fibres and slows drying. Tumble dry on low or lay it flat to dry in the shade. Do not bleach, do not iron, and do not dry clean or professional wet clean.
How sustainable is this midlayer?
Two concrete points. The shell fabric of the Peak Performance Freelight Polartec® Alpha™ Hood Men is 78% recycled polyester, and the garment is made without intentionally added PFAS.
