More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 40 g/m2 PrimaLoft Silver insulation in the body
- Fully reversible: two shells, two pocket set-ups
- PFC-free DWR, 100% recycled polyester filling
- No sleeves and no hood: not a stand-alone jacket
- Water repellent only, not for sustained rain
- BLUE SHADOW offered in M, L and XL only
The Peak Performance Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest is a lightweight, packable insulated vest for men, built as a core-warmth layer for hiking, alpine climbing and ski touring. It is fully reversible, with two different shell faces and a separate pocket set-up on each side. Body-mapped insulation and 2-way stretch side panels put the warmth where you need it and the movement where you don't.
Who is the Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest for?
This vest suits a mountain user who already owns a waterproof shell and wants a breathable layer that adds core warmth without covering the arms. It works as an insulation layer on the move, as a belay layer during short stops, and as an outer layer in dry, cool weather. It is not a stand-alone winter jacket: the Peak Performance Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest has no sleeves and no hood. For lift-served skiing in poor weather it also lacks a powder skirt and other ski-specific features.
How warm is the Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest?
Warmth comes from 40 g/m2 PrimaLoft® Silver synthetic insulation in the body only. That places the Peak Performance Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest at the light end of the warmth scale: enough to hold core heat while you keep moving in cool conditions, too little for standing still in deep cold. The 43 gsm 20D shell face blocks wind and repels light rain, so sustained rain or wet snow calls for a shell jacket over the top.
Which size should you choose?
The Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest has a regular fit with room for a base layer or midlayer underneath, and the 2-way stretch side panels add tolerance across the chest. Sizes run from S to 2XL, although BLUE SHADOW is offered in M, L and XL only. Measure your chest and compare it with the size chart on this page before you order.
How is the Peak Performance Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest built?
The Peak Performance Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest is one garment with two outer faces. Shell 1 is a 43 gsm 20D plain weave in 100% polyamide: thin, wind-blocking and quick to pack down. Shell 2 is a 102 gsm 90D stretch poplin in 94% polyamide and 6% elastane with a dry hand feel and more give. Between them sits PrimaLoft® Silver synthetic insulation at 40 g/m2 in the body, placed by body mapping rather than spread evenly, with a 100% polyamide lining. A full-front reversed YKK coil zipper lets you close the vest from either side, and each face carries its own pocket arrangement: zippered hand pockets, a zippered chest pocket, a zippered inner pocket and an inner mesh stash pocket. Elastic at the armholes and inserted elastic at the lower side panels seal the openings without a drawcord.
How does the Freelight vest perform on a ski tour or an alpine climb?
On the move, the sleeve-free cut of the Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest keeps your arms free for poles, ice tools or a harness while the body stays warm. The 2-way stretch side panels follow a reach without lifting the hem, and the glove loop keeps a glove attached during a transition. At a belay or a short stop the 40 g/m2 body fill buys you warmth for the pause rather than for a long stand. It packs down for a rucksack lid, so it can travel as a reserve layer. Where it stops: there is no water column and no stated seam sealing, so in steady rain or wet snow it belongs under a waterproof shell, not on top. It is also not a resort jacket, and no RECCO reflector is fitted.
What is the Freelight vest made of and how do you wash it?
Both faces are polyamide, which is why the Peak Performance Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest stays light and resists abrasion from a pack better than a soft knit would. The filling is 100% recycled polyester. Machine wash at 40 °C on a delicate cycle with the zippers closed, skip the fabric softener and use a technical detergent to keep the water repellent treatment working. Tumble dry on low to loft the insulation again, or line dry in the shade. Do not bleach and do not dry clean.
What makes this vest a more responsible choice?
The Freelight Reversible Insulated Vest is made without intentionally added PFAS and uses a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment, while the insulation is filled with 100% recycled polyester. The reversible construction also doubles the use of a single garment: two looks, one piece in the wardrobe.
