What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 445 gsm sherpa pile, warm in cold dry weather
- Shell in 100% recycled polyester
- Made without intentionally added PFAS
- Not waterproof: needs a shell in rain or snow
- Pile without membrane, so wind gets through
- Too bulky under a slim-fit shell jacket
The Peak Performance Graphic Pile Jacket Women is a heavyweight pile fleece midlayer jacket built from 445 gsm sherpa pile in 100% recycled polyester, with a seasonal all-over jacquard pattern woven into the fabric. It works two ways: as a warm visible outer layer in cold, dry weather, and as an extra insulating layer under a roomy ski shell. The relaxed cut and the bonded jersey back give it structure without a membrane.
Who is this jacket for?
This is for a skier who wants one warm, relaxed pile jacket for cold dry days: resort mornings under a shell, the walk to the lift, and après-ski or travel afterwards. The Peak Performance Graphic Pile Jacket Women is not a technical ski outer layer — there is no powder skirt, no ski-specific pocket and no RECCO® reflector. It is also not built for high-output days such as ski touring or running, where 445 gsm of pile is too warm and too bulky.
How warm is the Graphic Pile Jacket?
Warmth here comes from the fabric itself, not from a separate insulation layer: a heavyweight 445 gsm sherpa pile bonded to a jersey back. That is a substantial, dense fleece, so it carries cold dry air well. Because there is no membrane, wind passes through the pile and rain or wet snow soaks in — in those conditions you want a shell over it.
Which size should you choose?
The Peak Performance Graphic Pile Jacket Women has a relaxed cut, so it sits loosely over a base layer with room to move. Check the size chart on this page and compare it with a jacket you already own. Keep in mind that a 445 gsm pile is bulky: under a shell, choose a shell with a roomy fit rather than a close one. Offered in XS, S, M and L.
How is the Graphic Pile Jacket constructed?
The Peak Performance Graphic Pile Jacket Women is built from a single, substantial fabric rather than a layered system. The face is a sherpa pile at 445 gsm, bonded to a jersey back, which keeps the pile stable and gives the jacket its shape instead of letting it hang like a loose fleece. The seasonal all-over pattern is not printed on top: it is woven in as a jacquard, so it does not crack or wash off. Seams are narrow flatlock covering seams, which lie flat against the skin and keep bulk down where the jacket meets a base layer. The front closes with a full-length YKK Vislon® zipper, and elastic binding runs along the collar, the centre front zipper, the hem and the cuffs to hold warm air in.
Is this jacket suitable for skiing?
On the piste, the Graphic Pile Jacket Women from Peak Performance does its job as an extra warm layer under a ski shell on cold resort days, and as the jacket you keep on in the car, in the lift queue on a dry morning, or in the bar afterwards. It stops where the weather turns: with no membrane, no water column and no water-repellent finish, rain and wet snow go straight in, and wind cuts through the pile even with the bonded jersey back. Exposed, windy ridges need a shell on top. For touring or any sustained uphill effort it is simply too warm and too thick. Storage is limited as well: one hand pocket with binding, so there is no chest or pass pocket to work with.
What is it made of and how do you wash it?
The shell of the Peak Performance Graphic Pile Jacket Women is 100% recycled polyester in a heavyweight 445 gsm sherpa pile construction bonded with a jersey back. Polyester pile dries quickly and holds its loft through repeated washing, and the jersey backing reduces the stretching and sagging that thin fleece suffers from. Wash it cold at 30 °C with similar colours and close the zippers first so the Vislon® teeth do not catch the pile. Do not tumble dry — line dry in the shade instead, which protects both the fibre and the woven jacquard. Skip bleach, dry cleaning and professional wet cleaning; use a cool iron only if you need it.
What makes this jacket more sustainable?
Two concrete points. The shell fabric is made from 100% recycled polyester, and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS. That second point follows logically from the construction: there is no water-repellent finish on this pile at all, which is also why it needs a shell when the weather gets wet.
