What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 700 fill power 90/10 duck down, packs down small
  • Stretch jersey sides and sleeves move with you
  • RDS down, traceable via Track My Down®
  • Water-repellent only: no membrane, no taped seams
  • Jersey sides and sleeves are not windproof
  • Slim fit: little room for a thick midlayer

The Peak Performance Helium AOP Down Hybrid Hood is a lightweight men's down jacket with a hood, filled with 700 fill power duck down (90/10 down/feather) in the quilted ripstop panels. What separates it from a standard down jacket is the hybrid build: the side panels and sleeves are a 271 gsm brushed fleece jersey with 14% elastane, so the jacket moves with you instead of restricting you. It compresses for packing and works both as an outer layer and as the insulation layer under a shell jacket.

Who is the Helium AOP Down Hybrid Hood for?

This is for the skier, hiker or city commuter who wants one light, compressible down layer for dry cold, and who values freedom of movement over maximum fill. It is not a wet-weather jacket: the face fabric is water-repellent, with no membrane and no seam sealing. It also has no ski-specific features, so it is not meant to be your only shell on a snowy piste day.

How warm is the Helium AOP Down Hybrid Hood?

Warmth comes from 700 fill power duck down behind a 44 gsm 20D recycled polyamide ripstop face fabric, quilted in the Helium pattern. The warmth is deliberately uneven: the down sits in the body and hood, while the stretch jersey sides and sleeves are uninsulated and breathe. That makes it a moving-in-the-cold jacket rather than a standing-around-in-deep-cold jacket.

Which size should you choose in the Helium AOP Down Hybrid Hood?

The cut is slim and follows the body closely, helped by the stretch panels. Check the size chart before ordering. Over a base layer or a thin midlayer your usual size works; if you want a thick midlayer underneath, factor that in. Sizes run S to 2XL, with the AOP print offered in M and L.

How is the Peak Performance Helium AOP Down Hybrid Hood built?

The Peak Performance Helium AOP Down Hybrid Hood uses two different fabrics in one jacket. The main body and hood are a 44 gsm 20D ripstop in 100% recycled polyamide, quilted in the Helium pattern and filled with 700 fill power duck down at a 90/10 down to feather ratio. The sides and sleeves are a 271 gsm flat fleece jersey, 86% polyester and 14% elastane, brushed on the inside. The ripstop panels hold the loft and block wind; the jersey panels stretch and let heat escape where you generate most of it. A drawcord adjusts the hood, a reversed YKK coil zipper with chinguard closes the front, and elastic binding finishes the hem and cuffs.

Can you wear the Helium AOP Down Hybrid Hood for skiing and hiking?

As an insulation layer under a hardshell, the Helium AOP Down Hybrid Hood does exactly what it is built for: it compresses into a pack, it does not fight your arms on a climb, and it adds down warmth on cold, dry days. For hiking, approach walks and winter commuting it also works as the outer layer. Where it stops is clear. There is no powder skirt, no pass pocket, no ventilation zips and no stated RECCO reflector, so it is not a resort shell. The jersey sides and sleeves are not windproof, so in a steady cold wind you will feel the difference across the garment. And because down loses loft once it is wet, sustained rain or wet snow is the wrong setting for it — there is no membrane and no taped seams.

What materials is it made of and how do you wash it?

The filling is 90% duck down and 10% duck feather. Shell 1 and the lining are 100% recycled polyamide; the stretch panels are 86% polyester with 14% elastane. Machine wash at 40°C on a delicate cycle with similar colours, zippers closed, no fabric softener and no bleach. Drying is the step that matters for a down jacket: tumble dry on low, inside out, with tennis balls, for at least five hours, taking the jacket out every half hour to shake the down back into place. Do not iron, dry clean or professional wet clean.

What are the sustainability credentials?

The Peak Performance Helium AOP Down Hybrid Hood is made without intentionally added PFAS. The down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard and fully traceable through the Track My Down® program, and both the main shell fabric and the lining are 100% recycled polyamide.

Down (700 fill)
Down (700 fill)
Down with a 700 fill power delivers a high warmth-to-weight ratio. Fill power measures how much air the down traps, and therefore how much warmth it holds for its weight. At 700 the insulation stays light and highly compressible, so the garment packs down small and still lofts back up. This grade suits ultralight jackets worn on cold, dry days and works well as an insulating layer under a shell.
