More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 700 fill power 90/10 duck down, RDS certified
- Packs into its own left hand pocket
- Hood adjusts in both height and width
- Water repellent only: not for rain or wet snow
- No pit zips, so it traps heat when you work
- 20D ripstop shell is light, less abrasion proof
The Peak Performance Helium AOP Utility Down Hood is a women's lightweight hooded down jacket filled with 700 fill power duck down in a 90/10 down/feather blend, behind a 20D recycled polyamide ripstop shell. It is made for cold, dry conditions and can be worn as an outer layer or pushed underneath a shell jacket as warm insulation. The whole jacket packs into its own left hand pocket, which is what sets it apart from a bulkier insulated jacket.
Who is this down jacket for?
This is for a woman who wants one warm, highly compressible down hoodie that works over a base layer in town and under a ski shell on cold resort days. The Helium AOP Utility Down Hood is not a weather shell: it is water repellent only, so sustained rain or wet snow will soak through and the down will lose loft. There is no powder skirt and no ventilation, so it is not the jacket to ski in as your outer layer.
How warm is the Helium AOP Utility Down Hood?
Warmth comes from 700 fill power duck down, 90% down and 10% feather, quilted in the Helium pattern across body, sleeves and the fixed hood. The hood adjusts in two directions, height and width, and a chin guard closes off the top of the YKK Vislon front zipper. With no pit zips, this Peak Performance down jacket is a stop-and-rest and standing-around layer rather than a high-output one.
Which size should you choose?
The Helium AOP Utility Down Hood has a relaxed cut, so there is room for a base layer and a thin midlayer underneath, and it still fits under most ski shells. It is offered in XS to L. Check the Peak Performance size chart on this page against your chest and hip measurements before you order.
How is the Helium AOP Utility Down Hood built?
The Peak Performance Helium AOP Utility Down Hood combines a 20D ripstop shell in 100% recycled polyamide with a 100% recycled polyamide lining and 700 fill power duck down in between. The shell comes in two weights, a 42 gsm plain version and a 44 gsm all-over printed version, both light enough to compress into the left hand pocket. The quilting follows the Helium pattern and holds the down in place so it stays distributed across the panels. The down is Responsible Down Standard certified and traceable through Track My Down, and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS.
Can you ski in this down jacket?
On the hill, treat the Helium AOP Utility Down Hood as an insulating layer rather than a ski jacket. Under a shell it adds real warmth on cold lift days, and because it compresses so far it can live in a pack for the ride up and go on at the top. Worn on its own it suits dry cold: walking, travelling, hiking approaches, waiting around at the trailhead. What it does not do is handle prolonged wet weather, give you a powder skirt or seam sealing, or vent heat when you are working hard, and the 20D face fabric is light enough that loaded pack straps, rock and ski edges will wear it faster than a heavier shell.
What is this down jacket made of, and how do you wash it?
Filling is 90% duck down and 10% duck feather; shell and lining are both 100% recycled polyamide. Down needs more care than synthetic insulation. Close all zippers, wash at 40 degrees Celsius on a delicate cycle with similar colours, skip the fabric softener and never bleach or dry clean the jacket. Take it out of the machine promptly, then tumble dry it inside out on low with tennis balls for at least five hours, removing it every half hour to shake the down by hand. That sounds fussy, but it is what keeps the down from clumping and restores the loft the warmth depends on. Do not iron.
What makes it a more responsible choice?
Three concrete points: the down is Responsible Down Standard certified and fully traceable through the Track My Down programme, the shell and lining are 100% recycled polyamide, and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS. The pack-into-pocket construction also means the Helium AOP Utility Down Hood tends to travel with you instead of staying at home, which is the most useful thing any jacket can do.
