More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 700 fill power duck down at around 270 g
- Packs small; fits under a shell as insulation
- Recycled polyamide shell, RDS-certified down
- Water repellent only: not for rain or wet snow
- No hood, powder skirt or ski pass pocket
- 20D ripstop: light, less abrasion resistant
The Peak Performance Helium Down Jacket Men is an ultralight, packable down jacket filled with 700 fill power duck down in a 90/10 down-to-feather ratio, behind a 42 gsm 20D recycled polyamide ripstop shell. At roughly 270 g it works two ways: as a light winter jacket in town and on the trail, and as the insulation layer under a ski shell. The shell is wind- and water-repellent only, with no membrane and no stated water column.
Who is the Helium Down Jacket Men for?
This Peak Performance down jacket suits you if you want one compressible warm layer that covers everyday winter wear, travel, hiking and the warm layer under a ski shell. It is not a stand-alone ski jacket: there is no hood, no powder skirt, no ski pass pocket and no adjustable cuffs. If you ski in sustained rain, sleet or wet snow, choose a jacket with a membrane and taped seams instead.
How warm is the Helium Down Jacket Men?
Warmth comes from 700 fill power duck down, 90% down and 10% feather, quilted in the Helium pattern so the fill stays in place. That is light to medium insulation: enough for dry cold on the move or a rest stop, not an expedition parka for standing still in deep cold as a single layer. Down also loses loft once it gets wet, so keep it dry or put a shell over it.
Which size should you choose in the Helium Down Jacket Men?
The cut is a regular fit and runs from S to 2XL. Take your usual size if you plan to wear the Peak Performance Helium Down Jacket Men on its own or as the insulation layer under a shell jacket. If you want a thick midlayer underneath instead, compare your measurements with the size chart on this page first.
How is the Peak Performance Helium Down Jacket Men built?
The Peak Performance Helium Down Jacket Men is built around low weight. The face fabric is a 42 gsm 20D recycled polyamide ripstop, the lining is 100% recycled polyamide, and the fill is duck down with a 700 fill power rating in a 90/10 down-to-feather mix. Quilting in the Helium pattern keeps the down distributed across the chambers. The front closes with a reversed YKK coil zipper behind a chinguard, the collar stands up, and elastic binding at the hem and cuffs seals the openings without hardware. Total weight is around 270 g, and the jacket compresses down for packing.
Can you ski in the Helium Down Jacket Men?
On the hill, the Peak Performance Helium Down Jacket Men is an insulation layer rather than an outer shell. Worn under a hardshell jacket it adds down warmth on cold, clear days and disappears into a pack when the temperature climbs. The jacket also makes sense as a rest-stop or belay layer on dry days, and as the extra layer you pull on at the top of a cold lift. It stops where the weather turns: with a water-repellent shell, no membrane and no seam sealing stated, it is not built for a day of wet snow or rain. There is no RECCO reflector listed, and for high-output uphill work the down traps more heat than you want, so treat it as a stop-and-rest layer rather than a touring midlayer.
Which materials are used and how do you wash a down jacket?
Shell and lining are both 100% recycled polyamide; the filling is 90% duck down and 10% duck feather. The 20D ripstop is chosen for weight, which means it is less abrasion resistant than a heavier face fabric, so keep it away from rough rock and sharp ski edges. Wash the jacket at 40 °C on a delicate cycle with similar colours, zippers closed, without fabric softener and without bleach. Take it out of the machine promptly. Tumble dry inside out on low with tennis balls for at least five hours, and take the jacket out every half hour to shake the down by hand so it does not clump.
What makes this a more responsible down jacket?
The down in the Peak Performance Helium Down Jacket Men is certified to the Responsible Down Standard and fully traceable through the Track My Down programme. Shell and lining are both 100% recycled polyamide, and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS. The water-repellent finish is a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment.
