What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Please note! After registering your return online, you have 14 days to return your parcel to the postal service. If you return the parcel after these 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return.
5. Refund
You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.
This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.
Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

- 20,000 mm / 20,000 g/m2/24h three-layer HIPE®
- Fully seam sealed and packs into a daypack
- PFC-free DWR, no intentionally added PFAS
- No insulation: warmth comes from your layers
- One chest pocket, no hand pockets
- Only offered in M, L and XL
The Peak Performance Men Trail 3L Hipe Jacket is a three-layer waterproof shell jacket built for hiking, biking and general mountain use in wet, windy weather. It combines a 20,000 mm water column with 20,000 g/m2/24h breathability in a fully seam sealed HIPE® laminate that packs down and goes in a daypack. There is no insulation anywhere in it, so it is a pure weather shell.
Who is this shell jacket for?
It suits you if you want one light, packable shell for hiking, trail days and riding in changeable weather, and you layer for warmth rather than expecting it from the jacket. It is not a resort ski jacket: the Peak Performance Men Trail 3L Hipe Jacket has no powder skirt, no ski-specific pockets and no stated helmet compatibility on the hood. If you want a jacket you can wear alone in the cold, look at an insulated style instead.
How waterproof and breathable is it?
The three-layer HIPE® construction is rated at 20,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m2/24h moisture vapour transmission, and every seam is sealed, so sustained rain does not get through the fabric or the stitching. A PFC-free Durable Water Repellent finish keeps the face fabric from wetting out. Ventilation runs through the full-length YKK Vislon® front zipper only, as no underarm zips are fitted.
Which size should you choose?
The Peak Performance Men Trail 3L Hipe Jacket has a regular fit, with raglan sleeves and room for a base layer and a midlayer underneath without pulling across the shoulders. The jacket is offered in M, L and XL only. Check your chest and sleeve measurements against the size chart on this page before ordering, and take the larger size if you plan to wear a thicker fleece under it.
How is the three-layer HIPE® construction built?
The Peak Performance Men Trail 3L Hipe Jacket uses HIPE®, the brand's own membrane, bonded into a three-layer laminate: a 100% polyamide face, a 100% polyurethane membrane and a 100% polyester backer. Because the backer is bonded to the membrane, there is no separate lining to cling or flap, and the fabric moves as one piece. All seams are taped, so the 20,000 mm rating applies to the finished garment and not just to the fabric. A fixed hood with a laminated brim holds its shape in rain, a hidden adjustment at the back pulls the hood in, and a drawcord at the hem seals the bottom against wind.
Is the Trail 3L Hipe Jacket suitable for ski touring?
As a packable outer shell for high-output winter activity it works: at 20,000 g/m2/24h the laminate keeps moving vapour while you climb, and it compresses into a pack on the descent. What it does not do is replace a resort ski jacket. There is no powder skirt, no RECCO® reflector and no ski-pass pocket, and the hood is not described as helmet compatible. Venting depends entirely on opening the front zipper, which is limiting on warm, hard-working days. Storage is one zippered chest pocket, with no hand pockets, so a map, phone and gloves need to live in your pack. On rock and under pack straps, treat the lightweight face fabric with more care than a heavy alpine shell.
What is it made of and how do you wash it?
The shell is 100% polyamide on the face, 100% polyurethane for the membrane and 100% polyester on the backer. That three-layer sandwich is the whole garment, which keeps the packed volume down. Machine wash at 40 degrees Celsius on a delicate cycle, inside out, with the zippers closed and no fabric softener. Use a technical detergent to keep the water-repellent treatment working, then tumble dry on low or line dry in the shade. Do not dry clean, do not bleach, and keep the iron cool and off any print.
What does Peak Performance do for sustainability here?
The Peak Performance Men Trail 3L Hipe Jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS, and the Durable Water Repellent finish on the face fabric is PFC-free. The repellency is maintained by washing correctly rather than by reproofing with a fluorinated product.
