What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 20.000 mm HIPE® ACE 3L, fully seam sealed
  • 20.000 g/m2/24h plus zippered front vents
  • Relaxed cut closes over a back protector
  • No insulation: needs your own midlayer
  • No powder skirt for deep-snow days
  • 70D ripstop: robust rather than ultralight

The Peak Performance Ridge Ace Ski HIPE® Ace 3L Shell Jacket is a men's three-layer waterproof shell ski jacket built for freeride skiing, with a 20.000 mm water column and fully seam sealed construction. It carries no insulation at all: you build warmth with your own midlayers and get a hard-wearing shell with 2-way stretch in return. A 70D ripstop face fabric and zippered front-facing ventilation make it a shell for days that mix climbing and descending.

Who is the Ridge Ace 3L Shell Jacket for?

This jacket suits the freeride skier who wants protection and a relaxed cut over base layers, midlayers and back protection, plus a helmet-compatible hood and a RECCO® reflector. It is not for anyone looking for built-in warmth, for standing still in lift queues without extra layers underneath, or for a trim, close silhouette. Gram-counting touring and racing setups are better served elsewhere: this is a 70D ripstop shell on the robust side.

How waterproof and breathable is it?

The HIPE® ACE membrane in the Peak Performance Ridge Ace shell jacket is rated at 20.000 mm water column and 20.000 g/m2/24h moisture vapour transfer, with every seam sealed and YKK AquaGuard® zippers at the openings. On the skin track, zippered front vents dump heat directly; there are no pit zips on this model.

Which size should you choose?

The Ridge Ace runs as a relaxed, articulated cut in S to XL, hip length with a dropped hem, and is sized to close over a midlayer and a back protector. Check the size chart on this page for your measurements; if you prefer a leaner look over a thin layer only, consider the next size down.

How is the Ridge Ace 3L shell jacket constructed?

The Peak Performance Ridge Ace Ski HIPE® Ace 3L Shell Jacket uses three layers bonded into one fabric: a 70D lightweight ripstop face with a paper-dry touch, the HIPE® ACE membrane of 100% polypropylene in the middle, and a soft tricot polyester backer on the inside. Because the backer is laminated rather than hung as a separate lining, the jacket keeps a single, quiet layer against your midlayer. The laminate has 2-way stretch, so the shoulders and arms follow the movement of a turn instead of pulling. All seams are sealed, and the fixed hood has a laminated brim and two-way adjustment for height and width over a ski helmet.

Is the Ridge Ace suitable for freeride and touring?

Freeride skiing is what this shell is set up for. The relaxed, articulated cut closes over a back protector, the hip length with dropped hem adds coverage when you sit down in snow, and the RECCO® Rescue System reflector is built in. For skinning ascents and off-piste days that mix climbing and descending, the zippered front-facing vents open quickly with gloves on. Where it stops: there is no powder skirt on this jacket, so deep-snow skiers who insist on one should look at a model that lists it, and there is no insulation, so a cold resort day needs a proper midlayer underneath. Hand pockets, a chest pocket, an inner zippered pocket, an inner mesh stash pocket and a ski pass pocket cover the daily admin of a lift day.

What is it made of and how do you wash it?

The face fabric of the Peak Performance Ridge Ace shell jacket is 60% recycled polyamide and 40% polyamide, a 70D ripstop chosen for abrasion resistance rather than minimum weight. Wash it at 40°C on a delicate cycle with liquid detergent, close all zippers first and rinse twice; skip fabric softener and dry cleaning entirely. The water-repellent treatment needs heat to keep working, so tumble dry low or use a cool iron after every wash. Remove the supplied ski goggle wipe cloth before the machine goes on, and do not iron over print.

What are the sustainability details?

The Ridge Ace 3L shell jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS, and 60% of the face fabric is recycled polyamide.

3L
3L
3L refers to a three-layer construction in which the outer fabric, membrane, and a thin backer layer are combined into one unified layer. This design offers excellent protection against wind and water while maintaining high breathability. Because 3L is unlined, it feels light and flexible and functions as a versatile shell that allows your warmth and comfort to be determined by the layers you wear underneath. As a result, 3L provides a well-balanced combination of protection, freedom of movement, and comfort in winter conditions.
Peak Performance
Peak Performance began in 1986 in Åre, Sweden, where a group of ski enthusiasts decided to create ski clothing that was as stylish as it was functional. The brand is known for minimalist Scandinavian design and technical innovation. What once started as a local project is now a world leader in outdoor clothing, with products that combine sustainability and performance.
