What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

  • 20,000 mm / 20,000 g/m2/24h, seams fully taped
  • HIPE® ACE 2-way stretch in a 70D ripstop face
  • RECCO® reflector and removable snow skirt
  • No insulation: warmth depends on your layers
  • Front vents instead of pit zips for dumping heat
  • One colourway, sizes XS to L only

The Peak Performance Ridge Ace Ski Jacket Women is a three-layer, fully taped hardshell ski jacket built for freeride skiing and ski touring. It pairs a 20,000 mm water column with 20,000 g/m2/24h breathability in a HIPE® ACE membrane with 2-way stretch, and carries no insulation at all. Warmth comes entirely from what you wear underneath.

Who is the Ridge Ace Ski Jacket for?

The Peak Performance Ridge Ace Ski Jacket Women suits a skier who rides off-piste and earns some of her turns, and wants one taped stretch shell that works for lift days and for tours. It is the wrong choice as a warm standalone jacket for cold, static days, and the wrong choice as a town winter coat, where an insulated jacket gives you more warmth. Riders who want a close, trim silhouette should look at a slimmer cut.

How waterproof and breathable is the Peak Performance Ridge Ace?

The three-layer HIPE® ACE construction of the Ridge Ace Ski Jacket is rated at a 20,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m2/24h breathability, with fully sealed seams and YKK AquaGuard® zippers on the exposed closures. That holds up to a full day of wet snow and driving rain. Heat is released through zippered front-facing vents rather than pit zips, so on a climb you open the front panels instead of the underarms.

Which size should you choose?

The Ridge Ace Ski Jacket Women has a relaxed, hip-length cut with a dropped hem and articulated sleeves, so a base layer and a midlayer sit underneath without pulling at the shoulders. It runs from XS to L. Compare your chest and hip measurements with the size chart on this page before ordering; the relaxed cut already leaves room for a thick fleece, so there is no need to add a size for layering.

What is HIPE® ACE and how is the Ridge Ace built?

HIPE® ACE is Peak Performance's own membrane, made from 100% polypropylene and laminated here into a three-layer construction with 2-way stretch. The outer side is a 70D ripstop face in 60% recycled polyamide and 40% polyamide; the inner side is a soft tricot backer in 100% polyester, so the membrane is protected on both faces and sits directly against your midlayer without a loose lining flapping around. All seams are sealed and the exposed zippers are YKK AquaGuard®, which keeps the two weakest points of any shell closed to water. The stretch comes from the laminate itself rather than from added panels, so the Ridge Ace Ski Jacket moves with your arms on steep turns.

Is the Ridge Ace Ski Jacket suitable for ski touring?

Yes, within limits. The Peak Performance Ridge Ace Ski Jacket Women has the hardware a touring day asks for: a fixed hood that fits over a ski helmet and adjusts in both height and width, a laminated hood brim, a RECCO® Rescue System reflector, wrist gaiters, adjustable sleeve hems with velcro straps and a hem drawcord. The snow skirt is removable, so you can drop the weight for a tour and clip it back in for a powder day at the resort. Where it stops: heat management relies on the zippered front vents, and the 70D ripstop face is chosen for abrasion resistance over minimum bulk, so for fast-and-light ski mountaineering a thinner laminate makes more sense. For freeride days, variable mountain weather and resort skiing it is in its element, as long as you layer for the temperature.

What is the Ridge Ace made of and how do you wash it?

The shell face of the Ridge Ace Ski Jacket is a 70D ripstop in 60% recycled polyamide and 40% polyamide, the membrane is 100% polypropylene, the backer is 100% polyester tricot and the lining is 100% polyamide. That combination is built to take a backpack strap and a chairlift seat for years. Machine wash at 40 °C on a delicate cycle with a liquid detergent, no fabric softener, and rinse twice. Close the zippers first and take out the included ski goggle wipe cloth. After washing, tumble dry low or use a cool iron to reactivate the water repellent treatment. Do not bleach, do not dry clean, and dry flat in the shade.

How sustainable is this jacket?

Two concrete points. The Peak Performance Ridge Ace Ski Jacket Women is made without intentionally added PFAS, and the shell face fabric is 60% recycled polyamide. A three-layer shell that can be rewashed and reproofed also stays in use longer, which is the part you control.

3L
3L
3L refers to a three-layer construction in which the outer fabric, membrane, and a thin backer layer are combined into one unified layer. This design offers excellent protection against wind and water while maintaining high breathability. Because 3L is unlined, it feels light and flexible and functions as a versatile shell that allows your warmth and comfort to be determined by the layers you wear underneath. As a result, 3L provides a well-balanced combination of protection, freedom of movement, and comfort in winter conditions.
Peak Performance
Peak Performance began in 1986 in Åre, Sweden, where a group of ski enthusiasts decided to create ski clothing that was as stylish as it was functional. The brand is known for minimalist Scandinavian design and technical innovation. What once started as a local project is now a world leader in outdoor clothing, with products that combine sustainability and performance.
