What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.

- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 88% polyester knit, wicks and dries quickly
- Flatlock seams sit flat under pack and shell
- Thumbholes hold the cuffs while you layer up
- Next-to-skin cut: nothing fits underneath
- No insulation, so cold stops need layers over it
- Print placement differs from the photos
The Peak Performance Spirit AOP Crew Synthetic Baselayer is a men's long-sleeved base-layer top for skiing and other winter mountain activity, knitted from 88% polyester and 12% elastane and cut to sit directly against the skin. It moves moisture off the body and dries quickly, which is what counts on days that alternate between hard effort and short stops. Each piece carries a seasonal all-over print whose placement is unique to that garment.
Who is this base layer for?
The Spirit AOP Crew Synthetic Baselayer suits a skier who wants a close-fitting synthetic first layer with thumbholes, worn under any midlayer and shell: resort days, ski touring, high-output winter activity and general outdoor use. It is not the right choice if you want wool or a wool blend against the skin, because this is a synthetic knit. It is also not an outer layer: there is no membrane and no wind protection, so everything you get in bad weather comes from the garments over it.
How warm is the Spirit AOP Crew Synthetic Baselayer?
This Peak Performance base-layer top carries no insulation. Its job is to keep sweat off the skin and dry fast, not to add warmth by itself, so the warmth has to come from the midlayer and shell above it. The 88% polyester, 12% elastane knit stretches with the body and stays in place when you move, and the flatlock seams sit flat under a shell or a pack strap instead of rubbing.
Which size should you choose?
The cut is next-to-skin, the closest fit in the Peak Performance range, with no room to wear anything underneath. Sizes run from S to 2XL. Measure your chest and compare it with the size chart on this page before you order, and keep the close cut in mind if you prefer a roomier first layer.
How is the Spirit AOP Crew Synthetic Baselayer built?
The Peak Performance Spirit AOP Crew Synthetic Baselayer is a single-layer knit: one stretch fabric, no lining, no membrane and no fill. The elastane content gives it four-way give so the fabric follows the shoulders and arms instead of pulling when you reach up. Seams are flatlock, which means the edges are butted together and stitched flat rather than overlapped, so there is no ridge sitting under a shoulder strap or a shell seam. The sleeve hems have thumbholes that hold the cuff over the wrist when you pull a midlayer or jacket over the top, and the crew neck keeps the collar clear of a zipped shell.
Is the Spirit AOP Crew suitable for ski touring?
Yes, and that is where this base-layer top does its clearest work. On a climb you produce sweat faster than any layering system can handle, and a quick-drying polyester knit gets the moisture away from the skin and dries during the transition instead of sitting cold against the body. The same applies to resort skiing under a midlayer and shell, and to general outdoor days. Where the Spirit AOP Crew Synthetic Baselayer stops is static cold: with nothing more than a thin knit and no insulation, standing at a lift or in a hut queue needs real layers over it. It also cannot be worn over another shirt — the fit leaves no space for that.
What is the fabric, and how do you wash it?
The fabric of the Peak Performance Spirit AOP Crew Synthetic Baselayer is an 88% polyester, 12% elastane knit carrying an all-over print. Polyester is what makes it dry quickly and keeps it dimensionally stable through frequent washing, which a base layer worn against the skin will need. Wash it at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out and with similar colours, and take it out of the machine promptly. Skip fabric softener: it coats the fibres and slows down the moisture transport you bought the garment for. Tumble drying on low is fine, as is line drying in the shade. If you iron, use a cool setting and never run the iron over the print.
What about the print and the chemistry?
The all-over print is seasonal and placed individually, so the pattern on the garment you receive will not line up exactly with the product photos. Treat that as part of the design rather than a fault — but if you need a specific print placement, this is not the right style. On the chemical side, the Spirit AOP Crew Synthetic Baselayer is made without intentionally added PFAS.
