What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- Thumbholes hold the cuff while you glove up
- Flatlock seams: no ridge under pack straps
- 88% polyester / 12% elastane, quick-drying
- No insulation: warmth comes from your midlayer
- Print placement differs on every garment
- Next-to-skin cut, nothing fits underneath
The Peak Performance Spirit Crew AOP Synthetic Baselayer Women is a long-sleeved synthetic base layer in an 88% polyester, 12% elastane stretch knit, built to sit directly against the skin under a midlayer and a shell. It is cut next-to-skin, finished with flatlock seams and thumbholes at the sleeve hems, and carries a seasonal all-over print whose placement is unique on every single garment. It adds moisture transport and stretch to a layering system, not warmth and not weather protection.
Who is this base layer for?
This is for a woman who wants a close-fitting, quick-drying long-sleeve top for ski days, ski touring and other high-output winter activity, and who prefers a printed top to a plain one. The Peak Performance Spirit Crew AOP Synthetic Baselayer Women is not the right choice if you want a loose, roomy shirt, if you are looking for wool or merino for odour control, or if you expect the print to land exactly as shown in the photos.
How warm is the Spirit Crew AOP base layer?
It has no insulation, no membrane and no wind or water protection, so it does not work on its own in the cold. The 88% polyester, 12% elastane knit moves moisture away from the skin and dries quickly, which is what keeps you comfortable on climbs and laps; the warmth has to come from the midlayer and outer layer you put over it. Worn as the only layer outdoors in wind, rain or snow, it will not protect you.
Which size should you choose?
The cut is next-to-skin: tight against the body with no ease, which is what makes the moisture transport work. Available in XS, S, M, L and XL. Check the size chart on this page against your own measurements before ordering, and remember there is no room to wear anything underneath this layer.
How is the Peak Performance Spirit Crew AOP Synthetic Baselayer Women constructed?
The body is a single-layer stretch knit of 88% polyester and 12% elastane, so the fabric follows the body and returns to shape instead of bagging out at the elbows after a few hours. The seams are flatlock, which means they lie flat rather than standing proud, so there is no ridge rubbing under a backpack strap or a ski harness. The crew neck sits clear of a jacket collar, and the sleeve hems have thumbholes that hold the cuff over the back of the hand while you pull on gloves. There is no membrane and no insulation anywhere in this garment: it is one layer of knit fabric and nothing else.
Is it suitable for ski touring?
Yes, within its role. On a skin track or any other high-output day the Peak Performance Spirit Crew AOP Synthetic Baselayer Women does the job a base layer has to do: it keeps sweat moving off the skin and dries quickly once you stop climbing, and the elastane content lets it stretch through a full stride and pole plant. It also works as a next-to-skin layer on ordinary resort days and in everyday winter use. Where it stops is clear: with no stated water column, no wind protection and no insulation, it is only ever the first layer in a system. On a cold lift ride or a long stop, your warmth comes from what you put over it.
What are the materials and how do you care for it?
Shell: 88% polyester, 12% elastane. Synthetic, which means fast drying and hard-wearing, but it is not wool, so if you are specifically after merino for odour control this is a different product. The all-over print brings a few real care restrictions worth knowing before you buy: wash inside out at 30 °C on a delicate cycle with similar colours, skip the fabric softener, remove the garment promptly after washing and never iron over the print. Tumble drying on low is fine, as is line drying in the shade. Do not bleach and do not dry clean.
