What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 88% polyester, 12% elastane: dries quickly
  • Flatlock seams reduce chafing under straps
  • Thumbholes keep the sleeves down over the wrist
  • No membrane: no wind or water protection
  • Next-to-skin cut, nothing fits underneath
  • Synthetic only, no wool option in this style

The Peak Performance Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer is a men's long-sleeved crew-neck base layer in an 88% polyester, 12% elastane knit, built as the first layer under a midlayer and a shell. It is cut next to skin, with flatlock seams and thumbholes at the sleeve hems. The point of this top is moisture transport and stretch, not weather protection.

Who is the Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer for?

It suits skiers and ski tourers who work hard and sweat, and who want a stretchy synthetic layer that moves with the body and dries quickly. The Peak Performance Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer is not for anyone who specifically wants wool or a wool blend, and it is not an outer layer: there is no membrane and no wind protection, so it needs insulating and protective layers over it.

How does the Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer handle sweat?

The 88% polyester, 12% elastane knit is moisture-wicking and quick-drying, which is what matters on a climb where you alternate between effort and standing still. The 12% elastane keeps the fabric close to the body so it can move sweat away instead of hanging loose. Flatlock seams lie flat against the skin, which keeps hip-belt and rucksack strap contact points free of chafing. Warmth comes from what you wear over the Peak Performance Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer, not from the top itself.

Which size should you choose?

The Peak Performance Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer has a slim, next-to-skin cut: it is meant to sit directly on the body with no air gap, and nothing is worn underneath it. Available in S, M, L, XL and 2XL. Check the size chart on this page against your chest and sleeve measurements before you order, and expect a close fit rather than a relaxed one.

How is the Peak Performance Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer built?

This is a single-layer stretch knit, with no lining and no laminate. The fabric blends 88% polyester with 12% elastane, so it recovers its shape after repeated stretching at the shoulders and elbows. Seams are flatlock, which means the edges are joined flat instead of being folded into a ridge: fewer pressure points under a shoulder strap or a shell. Thumbholes at the sleeve hems keep the cuffs pulled down over the wrist when you push your arms into a jacket or a glove, so the sleeve does not ride up mid-run. The whole top weighs around 250 g.

Is the Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer suitable for ski touring?

Yes, that is the kind of use it is built for. On a touring ascent the Peak Performance Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer sits against the skin, moves sweat outward and dries quickly once you stop to transition, while the midlayer and shell handle warmth and weather. The same logic works for resort skiing and freeride days under an insulated or shell jacket, and the knit is light enough to use outside winter as well. Where it stops is clear: with no stated water column, no membrane and no insulation, it gives no protection on its own, and standing around in real cold with nothing over it will leave you cold.

What is the Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer made of and how do you wash it?

The fabric is 88% polyester and 12% elastane. Polyester is the reason it dries fast and keeps very little moisture in the fibre; elastane is the reason it stays close to the body wash after wash. Care is deliberately gentle: machine wash at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out, with similar colours and without fabric softener, because softener coats the fibres and slows down moisture transport. Tumble drying is allowed on low only, and line drying in the shade is kinder to the knit. Do not dry clean, and do not run an iron over the print. Take the top out of the machine promptly rather than leaving it in a damp pile.

What does Peak Performance say about chemicals in this base layer?

The Peak Performance Spirit Crew Synthetic Baselayer is made without intentionally added PFAS. For a next-to-skin garment that is the relevant claim: there is no water-repellent finish to maintain here, so the fabric does its job dry and clean.
