What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 10,000 mm fleece-backed stretch, windproof
  • 4-way stretch keeps the slim cut mobile
  • RECCO® reflector, Cordura®-reinforced hems
  • Seams not sealed: not for wet snow or rain
  • No vents, and the fleece backing is fixed
  • Slim cut: no room for thermal tights

The Peak Performance Stretch Softshell Ski Pants Women are insulated softshell ski pants for resort skiing on piste, made from a 30D midweight stretch fabric with a polyurethane membrane rated 10,000 mm and a fleece backing on the inside. The 4-way stretch and the slim cut make them move like trousers rather than like a shell, which is what separates them from a taped hardshell pant. The seams are not sealed, so these are pants for dry, cold days.

Who are these ski pants for?

These are for the resort skier who spends her days on groomed runs in dry, cold weather and wants a slim, stretchy, fleece-backed ski pant that still looks right walking through the village afterwards. They are not built for multi-day ski touring or high-output uphill skiing, for ski mountaineering and glacier travel that need fully seam-sealed legwear, or for deep-snow freeride days where a bib or a taped hardshell is the better tool. No harness-compatible features are listed, so leave them out of climbing plans.

How much weather protection do the Stretch Softshell Ski Pants give?

The shell fabric carries a 10,000 mm water column and 10,000 g/m²/24h breathability, with a 100% polyurethane membrane laminated between the face fabric and the backing, and it is windproof. That is mid-range protection: enough for cold snow, lift queues and a fall on a groomed run. Because the seams are not sealed, prolonged wet snow, sleet or rain will eventually find its way through.

Which size should you choose?

The cut is slim and runs from XS to XL. The 4-way stretch absorbs part of that slimness, so a base layer underneath is no problem, but a thick thermal tight or an insulated leg layer is. If you plan to ski over warm tights, take one size up, and check the Peak Performance women's size chart on this page against your own hip and inseam measurements before ordering.

How are the Stretch Softshell Ski Pants built?

Peak Performance builds these ski pants around one fabric that does several jobs. The main shell is a 30D midweight stretch softshell: a face of 85% polyamide and 15% elastane, a 100% polyurethane membrane laminated behind it, and a 100% polyester back. A second shell panel is 100% polyester. Inside, a soft fleece backing sits directly against the leg, which is why the pack classes this as an insulated pant even though no synthetic fill is used. The elastane in the face fabric gives the 4-way stretch; the membrane supplies the 10,000 mm rating and the wind protection. Three lining components finish the inside: 100% recycled polyester plus two polyamide linings.

How do these pants perform on a resort day?

On piste, the Peak Performance Stretch Softshell Ski Pants Women behave like a warm, flexible trouser. The snow gaiters at the bottom leg seal over ski boots with anti-slip elastic, and Cordura® reinforcement at the hem takes the wear from boot buckles and ski edges. A RECCO® Rescue System reflector is built in, which makes you detectable to RECCO® detectors used by organised rescue services. Adjustable velcro straps at the waistband fine-tune the fit without a belt, and a zip fly with hook-and-eye closure keeps the front flat under a jacket. Short, easy off-piste excursions in dry, cold snow are fine. Where the pants stop is heat and water: there are no ventilation zips, the fleece backing cannot be removed on a mild spring afternoon, and one zippered front pocket is the whole storage plan.

What are these ski pants made of and how do you wash them?

The polyamide-elastane face fabric is the reason the pants stretch and recover; polyamide is also the reason they resist abrasion better than a cotton-blend trouser. Machine wash cold at 30 °C, inside out, with the zippers closed and with similar colours. Use a technical detergent rather than a standard one: it keeps the water repellent treatment working instead of clogging it. Skip bleach and fabric softener entirely, remove the pants from the drum promptly, then tumble dry on low or dry flat in the shade. A cool iron is allowed, and delicate dry cleaning (P) is possible, but professional wet cleaning is not.

What does Peak Performance do on sustainability here?

Two concrete points. The Stretch Softshell Ski Pants Women are made without intentionally added PFAS, and the first lining component is 100% recycled polyester. Washing with a technical detergent and re-proofing when water stops beading is the practical way to extend the life of a PFAS-free water repellent finish.
