More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 20.000 mm HIPE® 3L, fully seam sealed
- Insulated skirt detaches, wearable on its own
- Snow skirt with snap-in ski pant system
- Uninsulated body: needs a mid layer in the cold
- Deliberately wide cut, no trim silhouette
- Sleeve vents instead of full-length pit zips
The Peak Performance Trailblazer HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket is a women's three-layer waterproof ski shell for resort and in-bounds off-piste skiing, with a 20.000 mm water column and fully seam-sealed construction. What sets it apart is the detachable insulated skirt: keep it attached for a long, covered silhouette, unclip it and the jacket becomes a shorter shell, or wear the skirt on its own. The jacket body has no insulation, so warmth comes from the layers you put underneath.
Who is this jacket for?
This is a jacket for a skier who spends her days on and around the slopes and wants full weather protection in a roomy cut with an all-over print. It suits lift-served powder days, wet and windy weather and skiing just off the groomers. It is not a standalone warm jacket, and it is not the choice for fast-and-light uphill days or for technical climbing, where a relaxed hem, a snow skirt and ski-specific details get in the way of a harness. If you want a trim, close-fitting silhouette, look elsewhere: the cut is deliberately wide.
How waterproof and breathable is the Trailblazer HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket?
The three-layer HIPE® laminate is rated at a 20.000 mm water column with a breathability of 20.000 g/m2/24h, and every seam is sealed. All exposed zippers are YKK AquaGuard®, including the two-way full-front zipper. Under the sleeves sit zippered vents for dumping heat on warm laps; these are sleeve vents rather than full-length pit zips, so airflow is more modest than on a shell with classic underarm zips.
Which size should you choose?
The Trailblazer HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket has a relaxed, wide fit shaped for the female body, with room over a mid layer and freedom of movement as the point. It is offered in XS, S, M and L. Check the size chart on this page against your own measurements before you order, because the cut is wide by design rather than by sizing.
What does the three-layer HIPE® construction do?
HIPE® is Peak Performance's own membrane, here built into a three-layer laminate: a 100% polyamide face fabric, a 100% polyurethane membrane and a 100% polyamide backer bonded into one fabric. Bonding all three layers means there is no loose lining to cling or shift, and the fabric holds its shape when it is wet. The Trailblazer HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket is fully seam sealed, so water cannot enter through the stitching, and it is made without intentionally added PFAS. A water-repellent treatment on the face fabric keeps the outer surface from soaking through; washing with a technical detergent is what maintains it.
How does the detachable insulated skirt work on a ski day?
The skirt is filled with 100% recycled polyester and clips off the jacket. Attached, it adds coverage over the hips and thighs for cold chairlift rides and standing around at the top station. Removed, the Peak Performance Trailblazer HIPE® 3L Shell Jacket becomes a shorter shell for active skiing, and the skirt can be worn on its own. A separate detachable snow skirt with a snap-in ski pant system seals the waist against snow on deep days. Because the jacket body itself carries no insulation, your warmth comes entirely from the base and mid layers underneath - this is a shell, not a winter coat, and in deep cold it needs a substantial mid layer.
Which features matter on the hill?
The hood adjusts in two directions, for height and for width, with a one-hand pull and a laminated brim that holds its shape in driving snow. A fleece-lined chin guard sits behind the top of the zipper. Storage runs to two zippered hand pockets, a zippered chest pocket, a zippered inner pocket, an inner mesh stash pocket and a zippered ski pass pocket, plus a media exit and loop. Sleeve hems close with hook-and-loop straps over gloves, and elastic wrist gaiters with thumbholes keep snow out underneath. A RECCO® reflector is built in, and a goggle wiper cloth is attached - take it out before washing.
What is the jacket made of and how do you wash it?
The shell is polyamide on both faces around a polyurethane membrane. The linings use recycled fibres: 77% recycled polyamide with 23% elastane, and a second lining of 100% recycled polyester. Wash at 40 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out, with all zippers closed, with similar colours and with a technical detergent to maintain the water-repellent treatment. Skip fabric softener, bleach, ironing and dry cleaning. Tumble dry on low or line dry in the shade, and take the jacket out of the machine promptly.
