What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Product information
  • 80% lambswool rib knit, 102 g in one size
  • Folded brim sets the depth you wear it at
  • Made without intentionally added PFAS
  • No membrane: not waterproof, not windproof
  • Hand wash cold in wool detergent, dry flat
  • Too bulky under a close-fitting ski helmet

The Peak Performance Traverse Hat is a unisex rib-knit beanie in a wool blend of 80% lambswool and 20% polyamide, made for cold days in and around the resort rather than for wear under a helmet. It comes in one size (OSFA) and weighs 102 grams, with a folded brim you can turn up or down to change how deep it sits. There is no membrane and no wind-blocking layer: the warmth comes from the knit itself.

Who is the Traverse Hat for?

The Peak Performance Traverse Hat suits you if you want a simple wool-blend beanie for everyday winter wear: resort skiing without a helmet, après-ski, travel, winter walks and town. It is not the hat for wet weather or for exposed, windy ridges, and it is not meant to go under a close-fitting ski or climbing helmet — a ribbed knit with a folded brim adds bulk there. If you avoid animal fibres, the 80% lambswool shell rules it out.

How warm is the Peak Performance Traverse Hat?

Warmth in the Traverse Hat comes from the lambswool rib knit, not from an insulation fill. Turning the brim up doubles the fabric over the forehead and ears, which is where you notice it most. Because the knit has no membrane and no windproof layer, cold wind passes through it, so pair it with a hood on gusty days and keep it for dry conditions.

Which size should you choose?

The Peak Performance Traverse Hat is a one-size beanie (OSFA). The rib knit stretches and the hem is folded, so you set the depth yourself: a deep fold for a shallow, cap-like fit over the ears, or the brim rolled down for more coverage at the back of the head. If you need headwear matched to a specific head circumference, a single-size beanie is worth thinking twice about. Check the measurements on the size chart on this page before you order.

How is the Peak Performance Traverse Hat constructed?

The Peak Performance Traverse Hat is a single-layer rib-knit beanie with no lining and no membrane. The yarn is a blend of 80% lambswool and 20% polyamide, knitted in a rib that gives the hat its stretch and lets it pull back into shape after wear. The hem is folded rather than finished flat, so the fabric sits double around the brim. Total weight is 102 grams in the one size offered (OSFA), which keeps it light enough to stuff in a jacket pocket on the lift.

Is the Traverse Hat suitable for a day at the resort?

On the mountain, the Peak Performance Traverse Hat is headwear for the parts of the day when the helmet is off: the drive up, the first run if you ski without a helmet, the terrace at lunch and the walk back to the apartment. It also works as a plain winter beanie in town and while travelling. Where it stops is clear. There is no water column and no water-repellent finish, so wet snow and rain soak the knit. There is no wind-blocking layer, so a cold wind cuts straight through. And the ribbed structure with its folded brim is too bulky to sit comfortably under a close-fitting ski or climbing helmet — for that you want a thin, flat-knit liner instead.

What is the Traverse Hat made of and how do you wash it?

The shell of the Peak Performance Traverse Hat is 80% lambswool with 20% polyamide blended into the yarn. That makes it a wool garment in terms of care: hand wash cold at 30 °C with a wool detergent, together with similar colours, and no fabric softener or bleach. Do not tumble dry, do not iron, and skip dry cleaning and professional wet cleaning. Take the hat out of the water promptly after washing and dry it flat in the shade so the rib knit keeps its shape and does not stretch out under its own weight. If you want a hat you can throw in the machine and have dry by morning, this is not it.

What does Peak Performance say about sustainability here?

The Traverse Hat is made without intentionally added PFAS. That is the one concrete responsibility claim carried for this beanie, and it fits a hat that relies on wool and knit structure rather than on a chemical finish for its performance.
