What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.
Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. - Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

- 28,000 mm water column, three-layer GORE-TEX
- Seam sealed plus YKK AquaGuard front zipper
- RECCO reflector for professional rescue search
- No insulation: needs a midlayer in the cold
- RET under 20 and no pit zips for hard climbs
- No powder skirt or ski-pass pocket
The Peak Performance Treeline GORE-TEX 3L Shell Jacket is an uninsulated men's shell jacket with a three-layer GORE-TEX ePE membrane, a 28,000 mm water column and fully seam-sealed construction. It is built for hiking and year-round mountain weather, and it also works as an outer layer over insulation for alpine skiing. What sets it apart is the combination of a hard 28,000 mm waterproof rating with a 70D ripstop face fabric made from 100% recycled polyamide 6.
Who is this shell jacket for?
The Treeline GORE-TEX 3L Shell Jacket suits hikers, hillwalkers and everyday outdoor users who want one fully waterproof shell and are happy to build warmth with a base layer and midlayer underneath. It is not a resort ski jacket: there is no powder skirt, no ski-pass pocket and no wrist gaiter. It is also not the jacket for standing still in the cold, because it carries no insulation at all.
How waterproof and breathable is the Treeline GORE-TEX 3L Shell Jacket?
The 28,000 mm water column, the three-layer GORE-TEX ePE membrane and the seam-sealed construction keep out persistent rain and wet snow, and a YKK AquaGuard coil zipper runs the full length of the front. Breathability is stated as RET below 20, which is moderate for a technical shell, and there are no pit zips, so dump heat by opening the front zipper on sustained climbs.
Which size should you choose?
Peak Performance cuts this jacket in a regular fit, so there is room for a fleece or light insulated midlayer without the shell pulling across the shoulders or back. Available sizes are S, M, L and XL. Check your chest and sleeve measurements against the size chart on this page before ordering; if you plan to wear a thick down midlayer underneath, take the larger of two sizes. The hem drawcord and the hook-and-loop sleeve straps let you seal the jacket down once you have the size right.
How is the three-layer GORE-TEX construction built?
The Peak Performance Treeline GORE-TEX 3L Shell Jacket uses a 70D ripstop face fabric bonded to a GORE-TEX ePE membrane of 100% expanded polyethylene, with a TR2 backer as the third layer. The three layers work as one piece of fabric: the face takes the abrasion and holds the water-repellent treatment, the membrane blocks water at 28,000 mm while letting vapour pass, and the backer protects the membrane from the inside so no separate lining is needed. Every seam is sealed, so the stated waterproof rating holds at the stitching too, not only across the panels.
Is the Treeline GORE-TEX 3L Shell Jacket suitable for skiing and hiking?
For hiking and hillwalking in persistent rain or wet snow, this is the core use the jacket was built for: full waterproofing, a fixed hood with one-hand adjustment and a goggle wiper on board. On skis, the Treeline GORE-TEX 3L Shell Jacket functions as a shell over insulation, and the integrated RECCO Rescue System reflector means organised rescue teams can search for you with a RECCO detector. Where it stops is resort-specific comfort and heat management: there is no powder skirt and no ski-pass pocket, the hood is fixed and cannot be removed, and with RET below 20 and no mechanical ventilation it will run warm on hard, sustained ascents in mild weather.
What is it made of and how do you wash it?
The shell face is 100% recycled polyamide 6 over the expanded polyethylene membrane, with a 100% polyamide 6.6 backer; the pockets use the same three-layer build with a standard polyamide 6 face. The 70D ripstop is a lightweight weave with no additional reinforcement panels at the shoulders or hips, so a heavily loaded pack or repeated rock contact will wear it faster than a burlier fabric. Machine wash at 40 °C with similar colours, close all zippers first, and skip the fabric softener. After washing, tumble dry low or iron at medium temperature (two dots) to reactivate the water-repellent treatment; line drying in the shade is fine, but add heat afterwards to keep water beading on the face fabric. Do not bleach, do not dry clean and do not have it professionally wet cleaned.
What are the sustainability credentials?
This Peak Performance shell jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS, and the shell face fabric is 100% recycled polyamide 6. A three-layer construction that can be rewashed and reproofed with heat also means the jacket's weather protection can be maintained rather than replaced.
