What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

The Peak Performance Treeline HIPE® 2.5L Shell Jacket Men is an uninsulated waterproof shell jacket built around HIPE®, the brand's own polyurethane membrane, rated at a 10.000 mm water column and 10.000 g/m²/24h breathability. It is made for rain and wind on the trail, on the road and in town, with all seams sealed and a 50D ripstop face fabric in a 2.5-layer construction with a printed backer. The relaxed cut leaves room for a midlayer underneath.

Who is the Treeline HIPE® 2.5L Shell Jacket Men for?

This is the jacket for someone who wants one waterproof outer layer for the whole year: summer and shoulder-season mountain walking, approach hikes, low-intensity hillwalking, travel and wet commutes. It is not a resort or freeride jacket. There is no powder skirt, no wrist gaiter, no ski pass pocket and no RECCO® reflector, and the 50D ripstop face fabric is not built for abrasion against rock or ski edges.

How waterproof and breathable is the Treeline HIPE® 2.5L Shell?

The HIPE® membrane carries a 10.000 mm water column with seam-sealed construction, which handles showers, persistent drizzle and wind. In prolonged heavy rain, or when you sit for long stretches on wet ground, 10.000 mm sits at the lower end of the waterproof range. Breathability is 10.000 g/m²/24h, and because no pit zips or other ventilation openings are fitted, the membrane is the only route for moisture to escape. For high-output days in warm, wet weather, that is the limit.

Which size should you choose in the Treeline HIPE® 2.5L Shell Jacket Men?

The cut is relaxed, so a fleece or a synthetic midlayer fits underneath without pulling across the shoulders, and the hood clears a cap. The hem drawcord and the hook-and-loop sleeve straps let you tighten the jacket down once you are layered. Compare your chest measurement with the size chart on this page before ordering; this colourway runs S, M and L only.

How is the Treeline HIPE® 2.5L Shell Jacket Men constructed?

Peak Performance builds this shell in a 2.5-layer construction: a 50D ripstop face fabric, the HIPE® membrane of 100% polyurethane bonded to it, and a printed backer instead of a third textile layer. That keeps the fabric package thinner and simpler than a three-layer laminate, and it is the reason the inside feels less pleasant directly against bare skin and is generally less hard-wearing than a three-layer shell. Every seam is sealed, so water cannot enter through the stitching. The front closes with a reversed YKK coil zipper, and both hand pockets sit hidden behind zips.

Is the Treeline HIPE® 2.5L Shell Jacket suitable for hiking and travel?

Yes, that is what it is built for. On a hiking day the Treeline HIPE® 2.5L Shell Jacket Men works as the outer layer over a base layer, with a midlayer added when it gets colder; the shell itself holds no insulation and no lining, so all of your warmth comes from what you wear underneath. The fixed hood adjusts in two directions, height and width, with one hand, and a laminated brim keeps rain off your face. Where it stops: cold standing around without insulation beneath it, severe mountain weather that calls for a heavier hardshell, and snow-sport use, where the missing powder skirt and ski-specific details are felt immediately.

What is the Treeline HIPE® 2.5L Shell Jacket made of, and how do you wash it?

The shell face is 100% polyester and the membrane is 100% polyurethane. Washing matters more on a 2.5-layer shell than on most garments: dirt and body oils sit on the face fabric and slow down the water repellent treatment, so wash the jacket when it starts to wet out rather than at the end of the season. Use a technical detergent, never fabric softener, close the zips first and run a delicate cycle at 40°C. A low tumble dry reactivates the repellency. The backer carries a print, so keep the iron cool and never iron over the print.

What does Peak Performance do on sustainability here?

The Treeline HIPE® 2.5L Shell Jacket Men is made without intentionally added PFAS, which covers the water repellent treatment on the face fabric. In practice that means the surface needs a little more care than older chemistry: rinse off mud, wash with a technical detergent and dry the jacket warm so water keeps beading rather than soaking in.
